SOTD SUNDAY MORNING, APRIL 11, 2021

Woke up to a dreary, overcast day. The only remedy is, of course, a great shave, as I continue to work through my favorite seven day set. Next in the rotation is the Wade & Butcher 7/8. This old razor really holds an edge. Three slow passes with the first of my LE MrEE brushes resulted in a superb mug shave. The hybrid knot on this brush laid down the expected slick, MWF lather carpet, allowing the baby to be put to bed. The Rex Ambassador wide open performed equally as well on the dome in two ATG passes. I feel refreshed, clean and velveteen smooth.

RAZOR: Wade & Butcher 7/8 (Mug), Rex Ambassador (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE LE Knurled Aluminum Handle Hybrid Knot #007
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Alt-Innsbruck AS Splash.

Not pictured, but still in use is the MdC Fougère.
Love the grip and feel of the PL8. For me, it's the ideal Polo size.
The Dovo got a good stropping and is one of the easiest to wield in my modest straight-den.
The point said 'hello' to my right
cheek, otherwise a very nice shave.
Naturally, there is some residual stubble on my neck, but...who cares? Not I.
Finished the shave with the almost-emptied bottle of witch hazel and
a couple of small dollops of Stirling Glacial Unscented Balm. A little goes a long way.

This flanker of the original Armani Code is about as sweet as anything in my den...almost too sweet, but Dr. Mrs. Primo approves.
Vanilla, tonka bean are the heavy hitters in this juice.
    I may have over-sprayed...:scared003:

  9. I wanted to improve my results with a coticule.

The awe inspiring Scotsman @Billyfergie who drops in when he is not being chased by the ‘wimmin’ of those parts suggested I apply a tallow lather upon the rock and use a gentle touch for a few rounds.

I used another of my projects that was sufficiently push cutting a foam packing peanut (the renegade HHT). Naniwa progression and pasted balsa routine on this one.

After following the instructions and leather stropping there may have been some improvement on this test, certainly no worse.

I test shaved verses a TI still sporting a nice factory edge.

Probably my best coticule result to date. Not quite as efficient as the TI but exceptionally smooth especially on the latter passes.

I’ll keep working on it. Thanks Billy.

All that lather exposure and my usual moisture dispersing alcohol spritz was sufficient to soften the ink from the blade. Almost gone now.

  10. Last night, I decided to remove the "closer" from today's shave-I just didn't trust the idea of mixing Vetiver A.S. and the Oud Maknoon cologne. As it turned out, I forgot to seal off part of the pour spout on the Vetiver, thus I got a Niagra Falls result. Not good. I saved enough on my hand to get a decent dose of Doc Guerlain's Vetiver for my face and neck. The shave was Barbasol...gettin' pretty close to the bottom of the can. Good work with it. 2 Knicks, no cuts. One pass. Due to the sloppiness in forgetting to seal off the Vetiver sput, I'll give this one a Very Excellent.
