SOTD TUESDAY MORNING, APRIL 13, 2021

It was a pleasure to wake up to a sunny morning feeling decent. Called in to the Vet ICU. Mitten is apparently up and doing well after his coyote tussle yesterday morning, not bad for a 16 year old kitty. The bride headed over to see him at 8:00 this morning and returned in great spirits. If he continues to improve, we can pick him up Thursday.

This morning’s mug shave featured the Herder 49 15/16. Lately I find myself reaching for my son’s blue resin handled 22mm silvertip badger. I don’t know whether it’s the bristle density or the loft, but this is one great little brush. The brush is both incredibly soft yet at the same time exhibits great backbone. It felt great on my mug. So good in fact that I went for a fourth pass on my neck.

I selected one of my two favorite Gillettes, the New Standard. It never fails to deliver, and certainly didn’t this morning. My usual dome shave consists of two ATG passes, but that dang brush felt so good that I went for a third pass. IMO the best head design Gillette ever produced was that for their New series of razors. The New Standard and New LC are masterpieces coming before the need to cut safety razor costs. I feel clean, refreshed and oh-so-smooth.

A very nice shave with the new acquisition, the FA Clauberg CopperKing. The scales on this razor just pop out at you. Glen, @gssixgun, did a phenomenal job restoring this razor including the Kirinite Red Pearl scales. The blade had a definite aggressive feel to my face compared to some of my other straights. I am not sure if it is the users lack of acquaintance with the razor or they grind, appears to be at least a half hollow. Further assessment based on future use will confirm my suspicions.

I did my usually three pass shave. My face received an extremely close shave with one minor mishap on the upper lip just above the lip line. I felt the blade give a tug leading to a cut. It was not anything significant with the crimson stopping before the end of the shave. The PAA Sangre de Drago is a nice pairing with the soap. I am receiving reminders of the Oud/Sandalwood scent throughout the morning.

Terrific shave to start the day! Three passes for near BBS. Except for a bit of feedback at my adams apple the alum was otherwise silent.

I'm putting a small dent in my stores. So far this year I've emptied a bottle of Witch Hazel and a bottle of balm. This morning I decided to call a PAA Pre-shave Cube done. Just too small to hold. It's a good thing all my backups have backups .

Funny story. I was staying with him one weekend when I was about 17 years old. I help him on the farm all day. Told him I was going out to see a girl that night, after dinner. I took a shower, and was ready to walk out the door when he realized I hadn’t shaved. At that age I didn’t have to shave often. I told him I forgot my razor, which at the time was some cartridge razor. He insisted I use his super speed. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, and hacked my face up pretty good. Lol, I remember him laughing when I walked back downstairs. He said, I looked better before I shaved. Lol.

My apologies Matt, I mean Andrew. Funny story, I can relate as I did that to myself back in the early 70's with a Gillette TTO razor. I do not remember if it was a Super Speed or some other model.

Hey guys. Just a quick shave update from the hills 'o Kentucky. As part of my long-term goal to consolidate things in my shave den, I decided to use up a pile of disposable razors that have sat around for too long. Some have six blades, others have three, and two of them...ahem...have pink handles. Yes, gentlemen, pink is the new...well...pink! I am currently rocking a pink Venus razor, and the shaves are outstanding!

I returned to my daily routine of morning shaves. I average two passes overall. Some areas of the mug get one pass while others get three depending on the need. I routinely end up with a very comfortable DFS+ shave. I change razors weekly, and this seems to be working well. I can shave by wiping milk on my face and letting the cat lick off the whiskers, so carts naturally work well for me too. They do shave differently than DE's because they require light pressure. The angle is almost impossible to miss, as the heads pivot and must be under some type of GPS control.

I am plowing through a container of Stirling BoS soap at lightning speed, and it will soon be finished. It gets eaten up much faster than my triple milled soaps like Tabac and MdC. This is my first extended use of Stirling shave soap in a while. It's incredibly slick and relatively strong scented, and I have enjoyed using it. I'll end up with some leftover BoS aftershave, but I'll continue using it until it's gone. I've got a couple other flavors of Stirling soap - Arkadia and Executive Man - that will eventually see some use.

We took advantage of a beautiful 70F day today and explored another city park. We admit to violating no city ordinances, so we'll chalk it up as a very good day. We also locked in some dates this summer for a two-week trip to Minnesota for an annual check up and to reunite with some new friends. A goal on this return trip will be to avoid a repeat violation of a certain Iowa city ordinance (speeding).

I hope you all are doing well. You know, sensitive fellers like you should try a Venus razor sometime.

Awesome shave and an interesting assessment of the carts. I will be happy if I never have to shave with them, especially the disposables again. I do not doubt that they can deliver a great shave, however, I guess I want to reduce my negative environment impact albeit slight.

Early morning shave,

An incredibly good shave from the Baili super-speed clone, pairing up wonderfully with the Gillette 7'0clock Super Platinum.... Every shave that i have had with it has been consistently good...The 7'0clock Super Platinum i find works really well with non-aggressive razors these blades are really sharp, almost 'Feather' but with a smooth edge. I personally find Feather blades to be over sharp which makes them feel rough...I prefer smoothness in a blade rather than sharpness, the 7'0clock Super Platinum has a good balance of both.

A Enjoyable 3 pass + pick ups close comfortable shave with no errors to report...Finishing to the shave off with a generous splash of 4711 ~ Eau De Cologne/ASL...The 4711 has a wonderful scent my only wish is it wasn't so short lived...You can't have everything though.

My face is feeling super smooth & smelling divine.

You can see that I have transferred the MdC into my Aesop SS bowl.
The loading in the glass jar became too cumbersome.
With my CH2, I loaded for bear and created a pretty sumptuous lather.
Today's razor, I like to refer to as the Wolfman Killer.
Having purchased both razors on the retail market, I feel entitled to use that term.
The RR Game Changer is a stunning piece of DE machinery, and feels as solid in the hand
as the Wolfman. The handle-knurling is like glue. The head geometry facilitates an extraordinary shave.
Comfort and smoothness are the Wolfman's equal.
So, for the curious, if you want to know how a Wolfman shaves, but are hesitant paying so much,
the Game Changer is for you. BTW, both made north of the border by our Canadian friends.
Achieving a BBS shave with this razor and a Gillette Spoiler was a very simple process.
New juice today.

This is a unique scent in my den. Hints of a burning wood, but not irritating;
sweet and fruity, but not juvenile fruitiness;
animalic, without the fecal touch;
all wrapped around a triple-layer of oud.
The price is incredible, as well. Worth checking out.

I got 2 pucks in a gift exchange this modern one and one where the box doesn’t list the weight in grams, just ounces. I think there was a slight difference in ingredients as well but I tossed the box for the one I’m using right now. I’m not sure if there was a real difference in the lather since I only used the other puck once.

It's shave #2 of my Rockwell Model T mini focus.
Everything went well with this shave. The Semogue and the Modell T gave another great performance.
On two passes and without any bloodshed or irritation, I got a nice BBS shave. Did my usual postshave ritual and smell nice and clean. I was with the highschoolers yesterday and today it is the middleschoolers. Have a nice day guys!

In order to keep the 1508.5 going and also having Wed free for Williams Wednesday I used the Sicily again. Great lather and we continued with the 6s and shave 3 with the Rockwell Blade. No worries and no fuss but getting bored already with the mindless and consistent shaves that feel good...............what's wrong with me craving variety. I will be using a vintage single edge tomorrow which seems appropriate with Williams and will get back to the 6s Thursday. Skipped my normal for a couple years now every day using my Humphrey's because I have Paul's (StubbleDaddy) sample of his Post Shave Elixir he's testing and want to see how it feels without any other things that could muddy the waters. I'll hold my thoughts on it until I have enough uses and then share with him via email.................ahhh the suspense has got you all riveted to your keyboards now, doesn't it. Have a tremendous day everyone !

Up early again, this time with a feline emergency. One of my wife’s three cats was attacked by a coyote and needed to be rushed to the local Veterinary Emergency service by yours truly. He’s in pretty bad shape. The coyote was sent to join his ancestors, and yours truly has a township gun ordinance violation to deal with thanks to my coyote-loving new neighbor! Mitten’s a good cat, but it doesn’t look good! After returning home, I needed a pick-me-up. So I grabbed my 160 year old Boker French Point and my Christopher Bradley safety razor from Karve.

This old Boker just feels so good in hand, and despite the softer English cast steel needing more frequent touch ups than some of my other straights, the edge always feels buttery smooth on my mug. The regular three pass mug shave checked all the boxes as did the two pass ATG dome shave with the Karve. I’d stopped using the Karve because of my tendency to nip my ear with the exposed tabs, but since getting the wide body top cap it’s no longer a concern. I feel a bit pissed off, but otherwise clean, refreshed and dolphin smooth!

A fantastic shave this evening. The more water I throw at the Williams, the better it gets. The second and third passes are even better lather. Gone is the slight foamyness and I’m being left with a dense wet lather with a high shine. I could swear the knot in the Zenith is getting better by the day. It’s an absolute pleasure to face lather with. The OREN delivered a very smooth shave, not quite as close as the Vector, but I can’t argue with these results. The Ethos Skin Food Splash leaves my face feeling fantastic and scent it just right for an evening shave.
