Time hasn’t been plentiful for me to keep up with this runaway train of a thread in awhile. I’d be remiss if I didn’t at least do a drop-in post to show off, and thank Evan
@MrEE for, this gorgeous brush handle. It arrived Monday, and was waiting in the mailbox when I got home from work that night. Upon unboxing, I was blown away how beautiful it is in person. The purple is absolutely stunning. Since the chosen knot was waiting, it got set with silicone prior to retiring for the night. There was temptation to use it the next morning, however I decided it would be prudent to give the silicone an extra day to cure.
Which leads me to the first use this morning. The knot chosen for the handle is a AP Shave Co. 24mm 2BED synthetic. Since I have several brushes with SynBad knots, something different seemed appropriate. Only one use in, so this isn’t a “true review” of the knot. However, my first impressions are like this: For only being a 24mm knot, it has a serious case of “little man syndrome”, behaving more like a 28mm or larger. This knot is a remarkable lather generator. Load it heavy (like I did this morning) and you create some work for yourself adding copious amounts of water to get the hydration levels where they need to be. I estimate it took about 15 additions of water to dial things in this morning. Note to self - load a little lighter going forward. This knot is not only dense, but scrubby, bordering on scritchy (even though it’s a synth!).
Nonetheless, the handle is an absolute joy to use. The feel in the hand is superb. It’s weighty, yet not overly so. The ergonomics are perfect. Evan, you did a masterful job on this run, and I thank you for sharing your talents with the group, and for the opportunity to own one of your fine pieces of craftsmanship. Congrats to all the others who also became caretakers to the handles in this LE run!
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe!
