1. It reminds me of my RikiShia blade.

Swedish steel for Japanese company maybe?

  3. Could be, quite interesting that the Japanese uses Swedish Steel.

  5. When I first saw it I thought Ribbon... actually I thought of the smiling Saito razors, as this one looks like it wants to smile. :)
Saito possibly designed some of the Ribbon razors, and this Ribbon 100 looks very similar to your blade. (Pic taken off a current BIN listing)

Looks pretty good, and those scales seem Japanese to me.

  7. looks like the same razor. Thank you for posting it.

The scales have the same shape and gold flex accents as my Riki Shia razor. Same blade as your Ribbon.

    Quite the mystery?
  8. Tuesday morning shave, EDV Neiström No.62. Nice razor that makes a quite lot of noise at shaving. It does the job extremely well.

  9. Test driving a pair of orihi kamisori, super hard steel in these. Cream was SMN lathered with a Simpsons 57, and Myrsol Agua Balsamica finished up. The razors shaved like a butterknife.

  10. At the good graces of one Scott @DaltonGang a very nice piece from his collection made its way for a field trip in South Central PA. just in time for a rare evening shave.

Stirling software and some brush and bowl I like to use.

Star of the show - A Beautifully restored Lakeside Cutlery, Army and Navy razor. Im told it was finished with Welsh Slate Stones, and finally an Eschers Thuringian. I was anxious to try.

My natural inquisitive natural had me check it out under a glass when I cleaned the oil off. I observed a smooth almost frosty look on bevel that I’ve read to be desirable. There were no sign of scratches, where I usually leaves some. I gave it my test with the foam packing peanut.....uh... very nice. Now I really couldn’t wait to give it a whirl.

I can not say that I’ve had a better straight razor shave. Very sharp. Very smooth. Results that exceeded my current abilities. I would have to say the performance was at least tied at the top of straight edges I have used or tested.

No one would be disappointed to own or shave with a piece like this.

No one would be disappointed with learning to hone as this piece has been done.

A big thanks to Scott for sharing.

    Bill

  11. A couple of "Loaners" from @Edison Carter . We decided to swap some razors. Both razors are very capable, and sharp. The John Jay was a much more comfortable blade to shave with. I think he did a fine job of sharpening the razors. The DOVO did have a slight frown, which might have contributed to it not being as comfortable as the John Jay.

Razors- John Jay. Vintage covered tang.
    DOVO. Solingen. Modern made.
Brush- @Jayaruh #262. Birdseye Maple/Ebony. High Mountain Badger.
    Soap- AOS. "OUD"
Aftershave- Shulton Old Spice. MMMMM MMMM Good.

  14. Some unknown to me but fine Japanese steel, Suzuki Niles. I was feeling a bit crooked this morning, I was straight by the time I finished my shower.

  15. Round 2 with the orihi kamisori, The Yama-Dai (top) is now honed and in good order, and was ‘butterknife’ smooth. The tapered one was good, but noticeably not as smooth as the other two - it’s fighting me a little. Always a problem child in the lot with straights! So back to the hones once again, but the bevel is good so there will not be much wear, just a refinish. Not that there would be a lot anyway, these razors are of super hard steel.

Soap was I Coloniali Mango Oil and the balm IC Rhubarb. A Keyhole 3 did the lathering. Super nice shave, powdered BBS.
