  1. Tabac lather is reported to extend the useful life of sharp blade edges. I'd float this theory with the pros for cheap entertainment. :)

  2. Super Saturday shave Keith!
  3. It does more than extend the useful life, it actuals improves the edge of straight razor. Even just the aroma of Tabac during stroping will enhance the edge.

  4. Wonderful shaves gents!
  5. I've heard it is a great leather conditioner as well. ;)

    Vintage Williams~~Simpson D3~~Gustave Lalune~~Dior Eau Sauvage
    I took a 72 hour shave
hiatus and this morning, took the Lalune to my Norton 8K/Naniwa 12K/Shapton 16K stones.
I think the more aggressive 8K Norton was necessary, after some wasted time on the Arkansas stones.
I did create a slurry with a 600K stone and, using two hands, performed about 30 laps (spine taped).
Moved to the 12K synthetic Naniwa. Similar laps, but I didn't really count.
I did keep my eye on the water and how it slid over/under the blade.
Lastly, the Shapton 16K Glass. (This stone feels more abrasive than the 12K Naniwa, go figure)
I then stropped the razor on my slightly, battle-scarred 3" strop (40x)
Piéce de résistance was the last 20 laps on my 2" Slavin.
Lather du jour was the ever-magnificent tallow Williams.
The Duke SiLVERTiP was luxurious on the face. You can see in the picture below,
the soap turns into some great goo, on par with anything on today's market---and oftentimes exceeding.

Well, let me say right away the edge was dramatically improved.
Disclaimer: I ALWAYS get better straight shaves with at least 72 hours growth,
however, this shave was pretty special. Cheeks and jaw are BBS, while the neck is very good+.
    Today I
chose an icon in the fragrance world. Some may consider it outdated,
    but I consider it timeless.

This a pretty old bottle I found in Ebay and while it's a tester, without a top,
I got a great deal. These vintage bottles are commanding ridiculous prices.

I know you don't see me around much these days, but I always enjoy the erudite posts
    and beautiful pictures.
Here's wishing everyone at TSD and their families a terrific weekend.
See you all in the funny papers.

  7. Good morning guys! It is a no shave day for me.
However, I just want to let you know that my 13/8 half hollow square point from the Ukrainian razor master, Yurii Kravchenko is finally finished. I didn't like the color of the original scales that he was going to use so he decided to change it. I wanted sapphire kirinite, but for some reason he couldn't get it so this was the next best thing. He just has to hone it before it gets shipped. What a cool tool!

    Have lots of fun!

  11. Thanks Bill! Unfortunately, wood doesn't come in blue and I like blue scales.

  12. Bill, I'd do the video, but then again, I like to stir the pot. :)

Have you thought about lowering your car window and sharpening a blade on the window's top edge? Or maybe on the rim of a coffee cup? That'd make a nice video, particularly if you use Tabac soap as your honing paste.

I hope you are well, Bill. I'm not a hone meister, but I love it when gents like you experiment with different techniques and enjoy great success. Well done and keep honing. Oh yeah, keep stirring too. :)

  15. Joe, it is a beauty! I can't wait to see it in your Den. Congrats!

I would definitely show this razor to my non-hobbyist friends just to get their reaction. But, then again, you know me. :)

  18. Thank you Charlie. Here was the original scales that he was going to use, but I wanted translucent kirinite scales. received_485727946124564.jpeg
  19. Joe, I also greatly prefer the translucent kirinite scales. I think you made the right decision.
