So this afternoon I took some alone time in the shop to finish a project I blame............I mean thank Danny @Hembree for. After seeing his electric razor that takes any DE Head I had been watching and seen some go thru eBay at crazy prices but bad condition or they didn't accept any other heads as his did. Then this one popped up for and I won for $10.50 and the bonus was it came with Mystery Edge Blades (Did someone say Mayhem) and what turns out to be a VERY OLD Hull Pottery 1940's Old Spice Mug. When it arrived I had to wonder how the person could list it as working since the cord was frayed and bare wires showing that would short a circuit if it was plugged in. So I decide to get a lamp cord and replace it but as I start to look for a place to splice and solder the wire I find the sheathing is dried out and brittle. Literally falling apart between my fingers. This led to slowly taking it apart and trying to find good wiring which led the search all the way back to the lead wires coming off the transformer inside the body of it. So be it as I had plenty of cord. All soldered, heat shrink tube installed, cloth vibration guard and buttoned up. There is no/on off switch so it comes on as soon as you plug it in. I may add an inline switch down the road. But at least now it's ready for a shave. Only question is do I use the stock head or swap it out for something else ???
Fantastic job getting it working Dave. You are a braver man than me. I just could not put that next to my face.
Great to hear that the razor is a keeper, Andrew. RR is doing some good things with their SS razors these days.
Awesome repair, Dave! I have a Nodachi head I'll send you to try out on that puppy. Looking forward to the christening and maiden voyage. I know you ain't scared.
How about the top tier marketing of a blade labelled 'Mystery Edge'...shocking that they didn't last...
My thoughts are very close to your own on these points, Andrew: Same here, but most of my recent acquisitions have been modern razors and my 'move along' drawer is fuller with non-fave vintages, it appears. Yup. Although a few of the French heads that Jeff shows off interest me. A Red Ring or a nice 30s Gillette fat handled OC TTO do too, but to be honest I don't want to pay the prices I see them going for. I like my GameChanger too...have you tried a Karve? For scientific purposes only, I assure you. If I had any guts/will power/resolve at all, I'd pick two Mt. Rushmores- one vintage and one modern and stick to those 8. However, I don't/can't/won't...
If you ain't living on the edge, you're taking up too much space Once you face your fears head on you have nothing to be afraid of IKR? I don't shave in the shower but I did add some marine grade silicone around the bolt and rubber gaskets that the head connects to as it didn't seem to water tight........
