This razor has quickly become one of my favorites. It combines the sharpness of an American made E3 with the mildness of an American made G1 injector. If I never had another razor this one could be my daily driver with no complaints at all but it isn't and won't be since this is a hobby to me and not a marriage to a razor. It is also a certified beard buster taking over a weeks growth off like it wasn't there. End result BBS finish achieved.

It's been a while since I've used this violet cream and this seemed like the day to do it.

With a chickpea of cream I got enough lather to shave well: for a Santa Claus-like lather, I would have needed a little more, but... cui prodest?
I needed a very mild cut and this Double Single Edge provided it.

The eau de Cologne has more to do with the violet than expected, but it's fairly negligible: the cream leaves no trace of scent after the final rinse.

The picture is worse than usual, I know. But it's the thought that counts!

The START Shave Cream lathered well with Jayaruh #403 Synthetic brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Cobra Classic razor with a Feather Professional blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Aqua Velva Musk AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

    Friday morning:

    Stirling Mentholated Pre Shave Soap
    Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole
    Super Speed/Schick day 12
Master Soap Creations Cherry Freeze SS
    Prep ASB
Reef Point Fougère Santal AS Splash

Fernando’s tallow version of Cherry Freeze is such a lovely soap - the scent is slightly different from the glycerine one and in my honest opinion I think it’s nicer. The lather works up so thick, rich, as well as slick, the menthol sensation is wonderful, and the skincare is so soothing. The Prep gave me such great additional postshave care, and the Fougère Santal aftershave from Reef Point not only smells gorgeous it’s got a nice menthol kick to it. The Schick blade is still performing well - it helped me to get a brilliant three pass BBS shave!

Have a good weekend - stay healthy and safe!

hot shower with Murray & Lanman Florida Water bar soap
    TOBS Herbal Pre-Shave Gel
    Schick E 3 passes
    Schick Super Chromium (2)
TSD Florida Water type Lanolin soap warmed up
    EverReady boar
    Thayers Cucumber WH
Murray & Lanman Florida Water cologne

I was going through a box of broken and spare razors several days ago and came across this E type that I had never cleaned up. Probably because it's a duplicate and it was green enough that I wasn't sure it could be made usable. I let is soak a few days in my Dawn dish soap razor jar and then with a little bit of work it shined up nicely. I popped a Super Chromium in it and got a good shave so I decided to give it another run this morning and it treated me to a fabulous shave.

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, April 30, 2021

    End of the Month Reflections

Welcome to Mitchell’s Wool Fat Fatboy Friday! It’s a bright sunny day here in the western Philadelphia burbs, and the perfect day for a great dome shave, albeit with the bulky Gillette TTO FB head design. Fortunately, for me, my goatee gets me an upper lip pass, so no issues! I also do enjoy shaving the mug with the Boker & Co. French Point. This little razor just works for me, particularly in the toe down neck pass that can be tricky with a larger blade. One of my good shave buddies is eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new Kravchenko shave hatchet. This will be his second, the first came from another artisan.

There is no question that they’re beautifully crafted. I prefer the traditional 19th century vintage lines and blade sizes of a classic straight razor like my little cast steel Boker French Point. I can’t attribute this shave hatchet, cleaver-looking aesthetic trend to millennial tastes, as my son, a fifty something and a very well-respected almost eighty something straight razor forum admin are fans as well. But that kind of variety of taste is why I enjoy this hobby of ours so much. I expect at some point, I’ll attempt a shave with one of these whisker cleavers, but until then I have more than enough traditionally sized straight razors to keep me well-occupied.

The shave this morning to the background refrain of my favorite super group, all musicians of my age, the Traveling Wilbury’s “End of the Line”, was uneventfully superb. The key to a great straight razor shave is taking one’s time and really “being there”, focused and involved. It’s almost a form of meditation for me in the mornings. It’s one of the two times of day for this old retiree that’s all mine! The ‘Honey Do’ list disappears. My favorite shave soap, the variety of shave tools that change each day, and that wonderfully smooth, clean, cool, and refreshing result set the tone for the rest of the day. The other time is when I’m working on my TR6.

RAZOR: Boker & Co. Sheffield Cast Steel French Point (Mug), Gillette Fatboy
    BLADE: Kai DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Rearden Razor 316L SS Tuxedo Synth
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with L’Occitane Cade AS Balm.
