Wasn’t really that bad of a look. Besides I’ve gotten accustomed to it starting in our High School days.
Thank you Bill! I had spoken with Yurii to ask him what he used to hone the razor and how many layers of tape. Artie was honed with an azuko jnat and 1 layer of tape. This was the 3rd shave and although they were good shaves, they weren't great. So, I stropped Artie on my croxed stropped, then linen and leather and went back to this shave after the video and what a difference. I told Yurii that I am happy with his craftsmanship, but very disappointed in his honing of the razor. I told him for the amount of money I paid, this razor should have been uber sharp and not just average sharp. I should not have to be croxing a new razor, especially if it is professionaly honed. I said that if I order another razor, then it needs to be uber sharp. He was cool and he understood. It's funny, but I didn't have a problem out of the gate with Max. Anyway, I gave it three shaves to see if it was me or the blade. It turned out it was the blade. I have no regrets on buying this razor because it is easy to strop and fun to use.
Saturday's Shave RazoRock Lupo 72 Lord Platinum (1) Wild West Brushworks 'Odin' Mike's Natural Pine & Cedarwood Shaving Soap T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel Brut Aftershave The Brut ended up being a nice complement to the woodsy scented soap today. A 45 second brush loading and then plentiful bowl lathering, slowly built with drops of additional water, made for an excellent, shiny lather. The Lord Platinum blade also performed well in the Lupo 72, just as it had with the Game Changer 68 OC. Not bad for $7 per 100 blades... 2 easy passes provided a comfortable and efficient shave with no irritation or mishaps this morning. I hope everyone has had a pleasant Saturday!
It is important to have a razor edge you like. I sampled a number of edges from different sources in evaluating how I wanted to pursue my own sharpening. I found performance variations existed from even the same source just like they do in mine. The goal remains ‘to get better’ and ‘the way you like it’. I just loved to watch you move that big boy around. It look like so much fun.
Great shave and video, Joe. I'm amazed at how fast you effortlessly glide the razor around your face.
I am glad you appreciated my shave with Artie, Bill! I just want to say that I wasn't angry with Yurii. Honing a razor is an art and it is not an exact science. Experienced honers miss the mark on occasion. I am glad that I have the ability to remedy it.
Thank you Andrew. It helps to have over 250 traditional straight shaves and over 250 shavette shaves. Also, I have 43 shaves with a 10/8 straight (Mad Max). With all that said and done, Artie is 3/8 wider than Mad Max and with a sharp point, I still needed to be cognizant of how I place that blade. Fortunately, I just had to make a slight adjustment to account for the size and the unmuted point.
