So last night i decided to shave for the second time yesterday. I know, I know.... "Jorge! why would you do that?" Well I'll tell you if stop interrupting! GEEESH!
Let me get the easy fast stuff out of the way..
The razor is just some left over parts in a bin. lol that simple but i needed to a 3 post razor for the blade and there we have it.
The soap was from a local company store that i got as a gift. I've had this soap for years and sort of hated it. IT doesn't react like any other soap out there. What i mean is, this soap can take ALOOOT of water which is good, it lathers , its slick and it has a great scent to it. BUUUUUT as you continue to build the lather, you will start to notice that the later will start to clump together...... the lather seems to dry up a little and as it does it almost seems to thicken up kind of like meringue on a Lemon Meringue pie. it is the weirdest thing.. And just when you thought " anymore water and this thing will be washed away" NOOOPE it just continues to lather and the cycle starts all over. LOL. I even scraped the lather off my brush onto the lid and the lather had turned into meringue. It's nuts!!
The blade of choice was why i decided to shave again, recently a fellow member shared his experience sharpening these blades and it popped into my head to try it. I have several vintage DE hones and a twinplex so I thought "why not ?" So because I'm an impatient bastard I went ahead and pulled out my stuff and proceeded to a full 3 pass shave. So i disinfected the blade because it had some rust spots , I could have just searched for a better sample but I had already put everything away and I wasn't about to go through my entire stash looking for that perfect one. The blade was not sharp and it tugged alot so i had to stop mid shave during the first pass and start the honing process. Now i'm not sure if these hones were gimmicks or really used by the masses, but i have them now so why not use them right? The " Bon-Her" hone cracks me up! LOL my inner child gets all giggly inside and obviously I only hear Beevus and Butthead in my head saying " hehe yeah bone her hehe hehe" Anyway i kept stopping after each pass and sometimes during each pass to try and hone the blade to nice edge. It felt like I did and the blade felt smoother each time, but I can't be sure if it was placebo or my face getting numb.. LOL. All said and done I had to stop about 6 times during the whole shave to re-hone the blade to an acceptable edge. In the end, the blade was ok, not bad, but not great either. I'm going to continue to try to see if i can get it sharper and maybe figure out how to do it better.
Anyway sorry about the long post, just thought one of you out there... may actually read it. LOL!
P.S. I needed a clean up and so I decided to put the blade into the R41 for sh*ts and giggles and it felt reeeaally nice.
