So I've always used Old Spice, aftershave and cologne. Really, since I was about 15 and that was over 40 years ago. I've used up a bottle of the dollar store spice aftershave and am currently in the Proraso Green mode. I love Bay Spice but summer time... So it's time to update. I have John Varvatos cologne, Gucci Guilty and a few others. What might you gents suggest?
Thanks Jim. I've emptied a couple of Avon Spicy containers and love that stuff. Not sure if I know the Brisk Spice.
Since you mentioned summer, maybe Florida Water. Or maybe Pinaud Lime Sec? Truefitt & Hill 1805. Hard to say. There’s a lot that I like for warmer weather. Maybe get some samplers.
Fine Fresh Vetiver Fine Italian Citrus GFT Lavender Water Of course, come Fall I’ll have different suggestions...
Colognes that smell light, citrus remind me of hot summer days where darker notes feel heavy so i think the following 2 colognes smell nice colognes tom ford - neroli portifino Penhaligan’s - sartorial aftershaves Proraso green Nivea men 2 phase ( harder to get in usa )
I can heartily recommend something Polish. I enjoy both Consul and Brutal. https://www.ebay.com/itm/303084256004?hash=item46913abb04:g:800AAOSwdzBcfTVY https://www.ebay.com/itm/302659940475?hash=item4677f0307b:g:gvEAAOSwhZ5b2DTv
There's a good description at the bottom of the ebay listing for Brutal with all the top notes, heart notes and base notes. I tried to do a copy and paste from my Kindle Fire, but it's not working.
Old spice is a year round scent, imo. But, if you are wanting something more "summery," I would pick from the very back of the cologne cabinet. Eau de Cologne. The original. Often imitated. Like, very, very, often imitated. The original is Farina Gegunüber eau de cologne. Pricy. Made since 1709, smells very citrus/floral. Lemon, Bergamot and lavender based. George Washington and most of the rest of the American founding fathers probably wore it, if they could afford it. Pairs well with MWF. The knockoffs are cheaper. 4711 is one you may have heard of. Used to be also called Farina, was made by an offshoot of the "original" family. Changed the name to 4711 after they were sued for using the Farina name. Yes, it's probably one of the oldest knockoffs in existence, since 1799. Another branch of the family, produced the Roger & Gallet "Jean Marie Farina" cologne. All three smell similar, so you aren't going to miss out if you choose a cheaper option. Shoot, you can also get 4711 knockoffs from other shaving vendors. It's not a terribly complex scent, and it's unfortunately fleeting, but it smells divine for about 10 minutes.
