  1. I did read where there was a change in the geometry on the aluminum Evo models for a more aggressive blade exposure.

The ‘extreme mild’ nature was what I liked about it. I don’t have an Evo model, so caution is advised against using the amount of pressure that I did on the video. These things could shave very different now.

The stainless steel Evo version (R50) did not change blade exposure.

I’ll follow your progress with interest.

    Razor: Ikon Tech/RR Handle
    Blade: Wizamet (4)
    Brush: Scoville Trotter Handcraft/Synbad
    Soap: Baron's Choice 1508.5
    AS 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla 70
    AS 2: Ethos Fresh Lime
    Fragrance: CK One
    Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 920

Picked this Ikon Tech up on the BST as all the talk of it's aggressiveness has had me avoid it but curious........Yep, it's aggressive for sure and 1 that for me requires paying attention. Got a very close 3 pass shave and curiosity has been quenched. Probably wouldn't reach for it much and may sell/trade it soon. Still a good shave was had with 1 inattention nick when I was getting cocky/confident. It was cleared at the end of the shave with alum and no lasting effects. Have a great day one and all !

  6. Terrific shave, pic and post Dave! Glad you satisfied your curiosity, but if you got a close shave with this new addition, then why sell it?
  7. Fixed my obvious typo to "Wouldn't reach for it much" which explains it all. :happy088:

  10. My "Throwback" shave for this week turned out to be real nice. To begin with, I didn't squeeze my brush dry enough, so I figured correctly that the soap(Razorock "Lime Burst")would be more wet tha showing a healthy lather result. I kept going back into the soap to lather it more as I began spreading it all over. Nicely done all around when I got it drier than the first time(the soap). I did get a couple Knicks at NW Porcupine(left side of the area just over the upper lip). No problems elsewhere, The Osage Rub felt real nice, and, as I'd hoped, drowned out the redness of the Knicks, allowing me to give this one an Outta This World Excellent. Enjoy the Preakness "Steaks"(Stakes)later today, fellas.

It's a beautiful morning on LI and I will be meeting Joe C. later today.

Today, I picked out the RR soap because it has a non-descript, clean scent that will not interefere with the Piacenza aftershave. I have very little left of the aftershave and want to retire it. The RR soap is easy to lather and it produces a nice, slick, creamy lather.

This is shave #45 with Max and he gave another great performance. Two passes for a BBS- shave w/o any errors. I could have chased the baby, but it was not necessary for me to do so.

Today, I added Maggard's alum block to my post shave ritual. Well, I didn' feel any stinging which signifies that I had a close comfortable shave. Tbh, I was not surprised, but it was nice that I passed the alum test.
After drying my face, I applied the witch hazel and the Piacenza aftershave to finish this delightful shave.
    Have a wonderful day gentlemen!
  12. Great shave Paul! I am glad to see that you used my tried and true method of getting a great lather by not squeezing all the water out of the brush. Have a great day!

  13. Wonderful photo and shave lineup. I love the DX.

Wonderful shave and photo Barry. I hope you have a great Saturday and weekend.

Great shave report and photo Dave. I had an Ikon Tech. It was the most aggressive razor I have tried. I could get a very close shave but the shaves always felt somewhat harsh.

    Simply beautiful Joe.

  14. Thanks for the reminder Bill. The Evo is still very mild. I did use entirely too much pressure in one area yesterday. Even so I was not punished for the mishap.

  15. Thank you Joe...well, usually I TRY to get it all out the first time-just didn't happen that way this morning. But even when I do get it all out before entering the soap, I still try to get that good lather going.
  16. Thanks Clint. It is a joy using this razor.

Figaro Sapone Speciale~~Rubberset 400/3~~Feather AC~~Vintage Houbigant Duc de Vervins
Starting a new focus with today's shave.
Open blade comparison between the Feather AC and traditional straight edges.
Once again, I used the Feather Proguard blade.
Excellent lather from the original P.160 Figaro, created with the Rubberset 400/3.
Face-lathering is great, but adding H2O can be hit or miss. I find that bowl-lathering
allows for better and more precise hydration. YMMV.
The blade is still very keen and I was able to get a great shave.
It's always fascinating that I never---but never get weepers when using a straight edge.
Now, I may cut myself, but never a weeper. Weird.
Cleaned up the face with some Thayer's and applied a dab of the Proraso ASB.

Scored this vintage bottle with real Oakmoss, which has since been banned by IFRA (International Fragrance Association),
because a small percentage of people can get an allergic reaction.
IMO, IFRA should keep their noses out of the perfume business.
Perfumers should list the ingredients with a warning label and allow the consumer to make up their own minds.

  18. I think you learned that you get better lathers by keeping that brush wet and not the way you usually do. I think you will find you get better shaves when the soap has more water. Slickness of the soap is proportional to the amount of water you add to it. Of course, if you add too much water, then you will break the soap.
  19. I agree completely with your opinion about the IFRA. if a company were to ignore the IFRA and only sell outside the EU I would buy just to support them.

  20. Great shave, pic, and post Joseph. IMO, Razor blades are much sharper than straights.
