That's true. My Dads old brush had a small knot .

The synthetic was just under 20mm and I had to widen the opening a little to squeeze it in........

I believe most have a coin or washer in the bottom as I drilled them plenty deep, iirc. Drilling is easy enough too. 1 1/8" sawtooth or forstner would be ideal.
They are held with marine grade silicone, I never use epoxy. Therefore, yes, you probably will be able to get it out smoothly. Just be careful not to put too much lateral force on the knot coming out, as it can crack the wood. That can be fixed too, though!

I use my compost (2 decent sized composters) for vegetable gardening...I would never even contemplate dumping Clubman into one. Carrots tasting of Pinaud might just about do me in.
