My new Pearl Flexi arrived this past Saturday, and I finally got around to taking it for its inaugural face drive tonight! Fantastic shave, paired with a new Parker Premium Platinum DE blade. Set on No. 3.5, it slalomed its WTG first pass through the always wonderful Tabac shave cream, taking all hair with it. I then lathered again, set it to No. 3 and went for the ATG second pass. Done. Resulted in a BBS both ways! Finished off with some Tet-A-Tet aftershave balm. Sidenote: As there were some quality issues - as there always is with a new razor model - I wanted to touch on those. My Flexi is a V4 (4th batch made) and everything works perfect with it. No blade gap issues, no bowed guards, no odd blade slants. Adjusting is smooth and perfect. Really the only issue I encountered is the painted red dot indicator... When I am done shaving and washing off real good my razors, I always dip them in 91% isopropyl alcohol, aka rubbing alcohol. When I did this with this razor, I immediately noticed some red oozing coming from the red dot indicator. I dried it off real good with the end of a q-tip which left red paint residue on the q-tip. This obviously does not affect the shave but it is still rather disappointing for a brand new razor.
Maybe if you baked the razor in the oven for a couple hours it will harden the paint? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I use Nu-Finish as a protectant (non wax non abrasive) but I don't know how it holds up to regular alcohol dunks. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
One thing I've done is after what is filled in with paint, I use a clear hobby paint made by Microscale. It's a very tough clear finish which I use after touching up paint on brush handle letters, numbers on adjustable razors, etc.
Ive been eye balling this damn thing for some time now and i kept making offers and seller wouldnt budge.... finally they relisted it and lowered the price and the price of shipping. I jumped in but still more than i wanted to pay, but it fascinated me so i bid and won. Now to figure out what to put in it.... something fougere? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Why dip the razor in alcohol at all? Are you protecting you from your self? I think hot water is good enough. Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
So i made a deal for this cracked bulldog. $30 shipped and i may have found a jeweler willing to solder it. I was going to try repair it my self but i dont feel like messing with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I swish my razors in alcohol to keep soap scum from building up. I share your disappointment in the manufacturer using paint that's alcohol soluble. Really nice razor though!
I've got a thing for trying out vintage shaving creams, sticks and powders. I have some over 100-year-old Colgate's Rapid-Shave Powder that still works like a charm. So today, I purchased and now waiting on one of these 1980s 4.5 ounces Gillette Lather shave cream. $12 shipped. Usually pay that or more for half the size Tabac and Palmolive creams I normally buy. Contains coconut oil (aka palm oil) and peanut oil, the peanut oil part I found intriguing. These are the eBay listing photos:
