Happy 30DC Anniversary, Andrew! Really? Over 20,000 posts and you still don't know my name? Thanks though, I'll take confusing my photos for Blairs as a compliment. Thank you, Joe! Sent from my SM-T510 using Tapatalk
June Focus La Savonnière du Moulin~~Simpson 57~~2011 Mühle R41/Sharp Star~~Oud Assam Rania J. Wonderful intro, Charlie. I will certainly be shaving and posting. Not sure about commenting yet. Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers. Right now, we aren't sure my mother will be able to move into the independent-living apartment I spent the last week preparing, so we have "reserved" an assisted-living apartment for her. Much smaller and I would have to pack up everything again and hire another company to move her things. Of course, the assisted-living apartment is only 550 sq. ft. so we'll have to yet again downsize. It's all very challenging. Luckily, I started the day with as great shave. Back to the R41 for the time being. The Donkey Milk soap is very good with a light scent. Finished with a real favorite of mine, Oud Assam. I hope everyone has a wonderful month of health and great shaves.
@Trigger to reply to your comment on my post. It may have been the blade I used or it may have been used to many times. I usually do pretty well on setting 9. But I only stick with setting 9 on the first pass. After that I dial it down.
You may be right, but I thought that I would share the other possible reasons for your less than stellar shave.
June 1st Tabac SS & EdC Jason's Blue Resin Maple w/TGN Badger Friodur 5/8 Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Star Jelly In for June, no rule or focus this month, other than shaving with open edges only. Great Tabac lather from the TGN badger loaded in Jason's BRM handle (super comfy to hold and the knot is a lather machine). Tabac lather.....incredibly dense if you want it, super slick, but imo, ever so slightly leaves a squeaky clean face feel after a swipe. Might experiment with some extra lanolin or glycerin next time out. This razor was rescaled by Glen Mercurio (gssixgun here) for those new to the 30DC. He was able to lift and transfer the Friodur script & logos from the original warped scales. 2.5 super smooth passes, with the grain, cross the grain (in to out), and a final opposite cross the grain (only the right lower jawline/neck). No crimson issues today, always a bonus. Some skin nutrition with PAA's Star Jelly after shave balm, followed by Tabac EdC. Unsolicited 'smells awesome' from wifey this morning, makes the day that much better! Hope everyone had a nice Tuesday!
Super nice Charlie! Ouch on the red dots though. Big fan of the ToBS Sandalwood fragrance.....need to dig mine out very soon. Awesome black and white image Jim, super TT combination! Love it Gary! Jillette June....
Love the images Andrew. But. but. BUTT.....where's the smoker eye candy for us carnivores? And Happy 30DC Anniversary. Wow.....time is a flying!
First off....great intro Charlie For June this Hoser will be partaking when I am not madly working in the yard trying to get the "list" completed before it gets too hot for wearing flannel. I'm making headway but still have a long way to go before I will be relaxing instead of sweating the details. Time and patience. For shave gear I will be using whatever strikes the mood without a theme attached. Here's a pic of my last impromptu job that wasn't on the list but made priority. Started with buying new chairs then refinishing the wrought iron tableWho am I to argue? Hope everyone has a great month of shaving
Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words. I love it, Andrew. There's something about principals and flat top haircuts.... A middle school teacher and I traded swats once in front of the class using her plexiglas paddle. She gave me a pretty good one and agreed to let me give her one on the last day of school. If you can imagine an energetic 8th grader putting everything he had into it, you would know why her face was purple when she raised up after her swat. This was obviously many moons ago in a galaxy far, far away. Names and details are withheld as @Edison Carter (aka the Pennsyltucky Honemeister of Doom) takes notes. She was a wonderful, caring teacher, and we're still friends today.
Thank you, Blair! I was so hungry that taking an after pic skipped my mind. Just know that the crust was perfect, the smoke ring was glorious and the ribs had just the perfect amount of tug. Hickory was the wood of choice for the smoke. However, I do have a before pic after the meat was covered in my rub. Finally, my made from scratch sauce brought it all together when the meat hit the dinner plates. Before:
