  1. Straight shave
From the Domed Hones of Iniquity

I gotta be careful here, even though I am the Assistant Shenanigator one cannot be too sure the 30DC power surge could lead Charlie to turn me in to the Hone Police for my flagrant violations. Especially after I outed him for cherry bombing the commode after chemistry class that one day......Then again, he has been pretty occupied picking on the folks from the Nottheast US.....Sheeesht, talk about the fox watching the chicken coup!

Oh well, I won’t worry for a couple of weeks at least. Even if he does join up with those that tried to get me tossed from the shave forum for talking about razor sharpening, the Queen would wait till the raffle ends to see that I make good on my donation.

  15. Hello all. I’m starting a day late, but I am here wholeheartedly. Last month, all but one shave began with a wood handled Feather DX, used for at least a full pass, and coupled with a Proline P-30. The remaining shave began with a SEXTOBLADE. Only Omega EVO and Tech Hive brushes were used (all synthetic), and three Moon Soaps were used, two of which are in the same base.

This month will remain disciplined up to a point, but it will be more relaxed. IMO The main difference is that safety razor only shaves will be allowed. Why? Because last month made it clear that the pace of life sometimes allows time for a comfortable safety razor shave in situations where my current open blade skills cannot keep up. The result was fewer shaves, which in turn meant fewer chances to lather up, and fewer opportunities to learn about the soaps and brushes. So mixing in a few safety razor shaves seems like a good bet to make shaving more fun, more frequent, and more instructive.

My overriding focus this month is still to improve my open blade shaving skills, but this time I will allow myself limited leeway in choosing razors and blades. I’m sticking with the handful of synthetics that I used last month. Mind you, I thought twice about locking down the brushes that way, but it’s the right thing to do in my case. Soaps are more complicated.

OT1H, I see clear learning value in locking down the soap base. OTOH I have a long backlog of soaps I’d like to spend quality time with. Where I come down at the moment – and time will tell how well this works - is that if I use a base at all, I will use it for at least two weeks. Of course, I might use it longer. The other thing – more of a long term thing really – is that I have some quality creams that have been especially neglected, and I plan to weave them into the lineup, not immediately, but over the coming months.

The Proline was getting tuggy, and I had a mind to try the Super anyway, so I switch between the 1st and 2nd passes.
