Look's great, Jason! Do you know if the only difference between the JAWS and OC baseplates is the number of teeth? I've really enjoyed using the .68OC plate. I'm just wondering if the JAWS increases efficiency (or makes for a larger sweet spot).
Congrats, Clint! Those pounds must have traveled to the western side of the ATL. Unfortunately, over the past two months I've regained 10 lbs of the 26 that I lost while taking care of Mom. Time for me to reverse that trend!
That is a great video, watched it in full. Thanks for finding and sharing Joseph! We visited about 4 different places in DFW when researching, came down to two stores for purchase. Did lots of online reading before at Smoking Meat Forums, as well as some of the BGE/kamado style forums. One store had the pellet grill we (thought) we had decided on, a Yoder Smoker YS640, but all the other styles of wood cookers as well (offset, customs, & the Kamado Joe brand). The other had store had both Kamado Joe & Big Green Egg brands, and the Traeger line. Interestingly enough, both stores had a kamado style out on the front sidewalk by the door smoking ribs for samples (we noted that). The second store sales guy won....we bought the BGE XL to have the extra cooking space. The salesman sounded like the guy in the video, even though they also sold Traeger (and other higher end pellet grills). Don't get me wrong....I'd still love to have the YS640 system, they've added some new features. One of the ways it manages the heat/pellet consumption, is that it's 335 pounds of steel, one of the heaviest/thickest out there. In my eyes, it was the epitome of 'if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing' applied to a pellet smoker. The only con to me on the BGE, to be really honest, is that I haven't mastered sub 270 temperatures, that's why I'm thinking WiFi fan system. Sub 270 for me is really tough to get the vent settings where the fire isn't going out, I'm probably making too big of adjustments. I have to read up on the fan systems though, as I don't want it to blow ash around on the food....have to find if that's an issue.
Thank you guys. Now the trick is to keep it going. I have a trip to bourbon country in 3 weeks so I know the diet is out the window that weekend.
I'm glad you made it home safely, Joe. In my experience, it's a bear driving in the NE compared to the SE.
