Don’t have this anymore, I traded it away. Fun while I had it but it mostly sat in a box unused. The hunt is sometimes what’s most fun
That looks cool. A medical device of some sci-fi flick involving a deranged dr is what comes to mind.. lol but hell it may be a “ mild shaver” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Strivel Adjustable Strivel is apparently a word-play. The first part of the word comes from the Swedish word for Strap which is "Strigel" and the second part comes from "Rakhyvel" which translated is razor - So "Strap Razor" OR "Honing Razor". Most of the ones you see are not adjustable. I don't have the "proper" blades for it so don't know if the honing feature works or not, but it doesn't do anything to a normal DE blade. Its pressed metal so it gives lots of audio feedback and using normal DE's is a great shaver.
It's adjustable. So yes, it can be mild. It's the only (my) unicorn razor missing from my collection.
You should research it. There's only a few threads about them on the internet. The center segment rotates and lowers to load the blade. It's basically a neat loading mechanism, adjustable one piece, and skeletonized. All in one single razor, and manufactured in Glasgow, Scotland, of all places. Probably sometime in the 1920's-30's. ...and it takes both old three hole blades and modern DE blades.
That Cambridge set was not sold in France, IMHO. It was the other version of the Cambridge - the OT, with the SR razor
Here is one I consider a unicorn Yes it is a Super Speed but this the rookie card and this razor according to my research was probably only made in a single production run for the Christmas season of 1947 before the second iteration came onto the market which I know was by no later than late January of 1948. They do show up but not often. Usually the one you see more often is the 2nd iteration which the has a different style guard with creases along the lather channels which was added to all 1pc Gillette razors in 1948.
Rookie cards are (now) desirable but not rarely seen. Actually probably less likely to have been mutilated in bicycle spokes. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
So potentially there could be millions of these on ebay that people buy and dont even know the rare ss they have because they may not notice the crease … Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Millions perhaps overstates but the Christmas and Father's Day campaigns did represent Gillette's two biggest marketing pushes, presumably with production to match those two biggest sales opportunities. I'm guessing there were more Super Speeds than unicorns produced in November-December '47. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
Sorry Jeff, once again im a little slow and didnt quite understand your comment. Lol happens to me often.. im a simple guy with a simple mind.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was agreeing with you..could be lots out there given they were produced for the period of greatest demand. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
