Experiencing a bit of shaving distress... During today's shave, I noticed my favorite brush, a 1940s HardRight which I restored with a new knot sometime in 2010 I believe it was, has 3 cracks in the handle of which 1 crack is fully through and about 2 inches around the circumference. I can see the shadow of the other 2 cracks within the handle but they have not fully broken through to the outside yet. A moment of silence for a true trooper of a brush over the last 11 years for me, and much longer since it was made.
So sorry for your loss. get with @jimjo1031 he may have something similar which cant replace the one you lost.
I just had a Rubberset 400 restored for me by @Old School and it's actually become on par in favor so it's appropriate timing I reckon. Still, it stings. I've lost a very fine and loyal friend of my face. Now, I'll have to send it off to Coventry or else I'll never get over it.
Go old school, grab the shoe box and dig the hole buddy.. pour the 40 and say your goodbye to the homie Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have one Hardwright Anchorset brush It does have a slight depression on the ferrule, 2nd pic. Knot not installed................
If you come across a black one like mine, I'd be interested. No hobby funds right now anyway. Seems I'm averse to green - the color and the money. lol Seeing as how mine is handle cracked, it should be pretty easy to remove the knot from it by just busting the whole thing wide open, and then put it in a replacement, yes? Like, recycle the knot into another HardRight?
That's a drag. I have had the knot fail on a few but never the handle. I worry about that a bit as my favorite brush is getting up there in age.
It's really odd. I have never dropped this brush or hit it hard against anything. Just seems it's a break down of the material.
When I make plastic models, I use a liquid glue that actually melts the plastic parts to each other, instead of the glue holding the parts together. Or maybe the ferrule and knot from your brush can be "transplanted" to another Hardwright handle, just a thought.
Interesting actually seeing it now. So it's a handle within a handle! Wouldn't actually be a bad thing then if all of the cellulite came off of the wooden handle part?
And it lives??? Paint the handle a similar color and BOOM! You sir are reunited with the your best bud
Keith saves the day! My brush will begin the journey to his hands in the morning, along with a couple of other brush projects, one of which I'm particularly excited about!
