Can someone please confirm whether or not these blades are coated? It doesn't say on the front or back of the package...
I found them on Amazon and seems a pretty good price compared to the usual online wet shaving retailers... 2-pack, 20 blades $14.11 or 70¢ a blade. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TWSJ7K0/?tag=thshde-20 3-pack, 30 blades $18.52 or 62¢ a blade. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012YAT9MI/?tag=thshde-20 4-pack, 40 blades $22.91 or 57¢ a blade. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001F0RC5K/?tag=thshde-20 Free Prime shipping.
The 4-pack looks like a good price. Guess it's been about 5 years since I've bought any. I only use my SEs on Sundays, so a pack of 10 blades lasts me darn near a year. Seem to recall they were just a tad over $5 for the pack back then. May have to stock up.
I don't think they are coated, but I am not sure. I have used them (picked up locally) and liked them. They are not in stock right now, but the best price I have seen for GEM SE blades and where I have been buying them for the last few years is from Connaught. It was less expensive for an American made product shipped to England and back then I could get here. https://connaughtshaving.com/gemss.html
Thanks for that tip Dale. Thanks to a most generous TNNSER SE razor gift from Tom @twhite , I'm going to attempt a GEM-style SE shave for the first time in about 10ish years. So I just needed a few blades to give it a go. If it works out and I like it, and I don't carve half my face off, then I will look into getting a bulk amount like that. I went with the 4-pack/40 blades on Amazon. If I decide it is still not for me, I will PIF the razor and blades away, unless Tom wants the razor back, in which case I will just PIF the blades.. I'm hoping now with several years of wet shaving experience under my belt, this won't go as bad as the last time I attempted it.
My best advice is what I'm sure you already know. The pressure you use should be like you're trying to take the lather off and leave a clean path without actually touching your face.
Noted with thanks! I'm sure I will have several questions, complaints and observations. Don't abandon me!
I have one, and considering I prefer heavier razors, and for being such a light razor, it's very good.
Oh no! I won't PIF those! Thanks for allowing me to try those works of razor art out! They will definitely be coming back to you when my trial has ended!
The Personna Gem Extra Sharp Blades are Coated. The Standard Gem Blades That say Coated, are Coated. Standard Gem Blades, that do not say Coated, are not Coated.
Thanks. The reason I asked for confirmation is because it doesn't say coated on the packaging anywhere but in the questions section of the Amazon listing, people have asked "are they coated?" and other people have replied "yes they are". So was just trying to get confirmation.
I see the 100-blades coated GEM blades are back on Amazon, for pretty much the same price I paid for the uncoated 4-pack 40 blades uncoated. $24.99 free shipping. So I ordered the 100-blades pack and will return the 40-blades for a refund. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0777S53YT/?tag=thshde-20 Sold by and shipped from The Razor Blade Company: https://www.razorbladeco.com/shaving-blades Oddly they don't have injector blades listing on the shaving blades page but they do have them: https://www.razorbladeco.com/search?q=Injector Apparently they've been selling razor blades for a very long time!
I sent the 40 uncoated blades back to Amazon Thursday. Got my refund same day. Ordered these 100 coated for the same price as the uncoated 40. They arrived today.
