On the loosening handle issue in the short term I'd suggest wrapping the threads with teflon tape to make a tighter fit.

Tarmax just landed 20 minutes ago. Just read closer about the extra plate. They looked the same size to me so it must be a small difference. I'll use the one that looks used more and was on the razor and give it a go tomorrow hopefully. Edit-Just looked and the thinner one was in, so I swapped it for the thicker one for more exposure..........for Science
There is literally only .016 difference in plate thickness. As I used a 32 pitch thread. one full revolution is almost .032" To find the thicker plate. place both plates on your flat surface with the small ends down. Then you can see and feel the thicker one. Hope you enjoy the shaves. One more thing if the hash mark does not lign up with your blade in the razor on 1 when fully dialed down. Just take apart and rotate the cap 180 deg. that will get you to 1
