1. Very nice Gary, I really like the handle. I saw a similar tech handle on eBay recently but it was hollow.

  3. Was a Big Boy kind of day today!
I like a hefty razor and this one delivers!
I think maybe a couple grams light of a Big Fellow, but certainly among the heaviest Gillette razors ever made to my knowledge, weighing in at 85.3 grams on my digital scale (3oz). [IMG]

  4. So I just noticed something weird about this Big Boy...
They were made from 1929-1931 I believe, and would have a 6 digit date code. Matt's video on them on RE shows this as well with a nice close up of the head.
Mine has a 5 digit code (74708) which would put it at 1905, which wouldn't be correct.
    It's solidly struck, so I don't believe there's a chance it's just not legible...perhaps a "Monday" razor after a long weekend? Lol.
Chime in please... perhaps I'm drinking too much!

  5. Hello, no reason for confusion. New De luxes were serial numbered staring from 1 or 1D, yours is the 74708th New Deluxe in the row (mine is the 121218th).
To latest knowledge all serial numbered De Luxes were produced between 1930-31, why some have D after the number while others don't is not known.

The serial numbers of New De Luxe models have no connection to the earlier numbers used on Old Types or New Improveds. So there is (was) an Old type and New Deluxe with serial 74708.
  6. I have to take back the clip thing being used to date British Flare Tip razors. They went to those clips in 59. They didn't start selling the British Flare Tip razors until 1959 so that makes it not useful except to know that the razor is 59 or later.
