It was Mo who introduced me to South Africa’s wonderful soaps when he sent me this delightful Frosty Bay Rum along with a big bunch of others that he carries. The scent is so beautiful, the lather is so thick, rich, creamy and slick, the menthol sensation is very pleasant, and the postshave feeling so comfortable. The Prep’s medicinal scent seems to go so well with anything bay rum scented and the cooling, moisturizing, and soothing are perfect. The Krampert’s Bay Rum aftershave smells so gorgeous and it feels great on my skin. Another insanely smooth three pass shave!

Well, what a lovely shave this morning with Round 2 of the Central Texas Soaps' Week-end Rodeo(yeeeehawwww). 0:40 again to load the soap onto the Maggard brush. I could have stopped at 0:30, as the CTS soap jumps onto the brush. Solid "paint job" everywhere-nice warm lather. Razor dragged across and up&down the face and neck with ease. Zero cuts or Knicks. Slow and easy does it up N.Porcupine Alley. Ditto South. At Cactus Nation, I tried to "attack" the ingrown hair area and I believe I got some off . Cheeks&sideburn areas great. The aftershave went on really well. The soap is getting to the bottom of the tub, but I can't see any "pavement" just yet. What else can I give this one but Outta This World Excellent?

After a cold water rinse I finished off with Granddad's Blend AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Sunday injector shave, Dec 5th 2021,

Razor: Pal injecto-matic, Mfg 1952>60's? great mild razor, lots of money was spent developing this razor, made in US & GB .
Blade : Personna SS PTFE injector(4) sharp & smooth with great longevity.
Soap: Razorock Blue Barber- nice barber shop scent(Floyd Blue clone?) with excellent lather qualities.(misted)
Brush: Yaqi 24mm high mountain silvertip, excellent lather generator, pillow like soft tips, nice scrub, good lather painter.
Pre shave: Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser + a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on the cleaned beard area.
Prep: Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups.
Post shave: Razorock Blue barber with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion (balm) + scentless.
Results: CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers = great shave with my Pal injecto-matic with a Personna injector blade.

Yesterday’s shave, while eye-opening, was nowhere near as smooth and close as I prefer. The Durham Duplex, is the design embodiment of the notion of “safety razor”. I truly believe one would have to work hard to hurt themself with that shaver. It would seem a great tool for the DE or SE shaver who has thought about straight shaving, but has held off because of a concern about badly cutting themself.

Today I selected one of my favorite vintage straight razors, the Manhattan Cutlery 13/16 for my mug shave. David Work restored this razor and did a magnificent job. The Sheffield steel sports a great 9 Ball slate edge. While I enjoyed yesterday’s shave, today’s two and a half pass mug shave put the velveteen back into smooth. DE and SE safety razors do the job, but there’s just something qualitatively different about a great straight shave.

I truly like shaving my dome with a Gem blade holder. My favorite is the Ever Ready Streamline, but a very close second is the Gem G-Bar. It glided through the two pass ATG noggin shave floating on that slick, yogurty Nancy Boy Signature Scent lather carpet. The Durham Duplex delivered a decent DFS shave yesterday, but this morning’s G-Bar shave delivered the level of velveteen smoothness I routinely expect and did not receive yesterday.

Last night I washed my face and splashed on some more of the witch hazel recovery formula and it didn't sting. So I then applied some PAA Mysterium Serum balm. This morning my neck feels just good enough to take a 1 pass shave with the grain, so I will use the Starling V2 SE.

***EDIT - The CK6 shaving soap is just so protective. No pre-shave stuff needed. I went real easy on the skin with one pass and touching up certain spots and avoiding spots that I knew could be problematic from yesterday. The result was perfect. I love the scent of Kiritimati. It's like a tobacco meets bay rum meets traditional ancient middle east scents (frankincense and myrrh). There is a hint of sweetness in there that ties it all together.

SOTD MONDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 6, 2021

I own and prefer two types of replaceable blade barber’s razors, those using hair trimmer/hair shaper blades and those using Artist Club (AC) blades. My two favorites are the Tedalus Essence, which can also accommodate DE and injector blades, and my Feather DX, strictly an AC blade razor. Before the arrival of the Tedalus and the hair trimmer/hair shaper blade razors, my regular and only goto barber’s razor was the Feather DX, the razor I selected for this morning’s mug shave. When equipped with a Feather Super, there’s no straight razor on the planet that shaves closer.

I’ve owned the Feather SS barber’s razors, but never cared for the lip around the blade which never quite felt right to me. Although I’ve never shaved with the newer Feather SR model which came out a few months ago, I understand it is designed as a midpoint between the lipped SS and the lipless DX. The beauty of the DX model is that it was designed from the gingold to shave like a regular straight from a shave angle perspective, and that is what I like about it. After loading a fresh Feather Super it put the baby to bed in two and a half passes.

The collaboration between Schick and the International Silver company back in the 70s resulted in what has come to be called the Schick Type L “Paul Revere” model. I’ve always enjoyed shaving my dome with any of the Schick models that accommodate the Schick Twinblade, and Schick Injector models from the Type L onwards can do so. The “Paul Revere” model’s unique extended handle resembles what one might discover attached to a piece of silverware. It feels great in hand, and this morning completed a two pass ATG noggin shave that left your very happy narrator velveteen smooth from shoulders to dome.
