Great shave kit, Joe! Sorry you’re feeling a bit bad! It is flu season, and that dang Omicron is causing breakthrough infections among the vaccinated. If the cough lasts more than three days or gets worse, get it checked out. Advice from my nurse practitioner daughter-in-law. Feel better, my friend!

Vintage William's and the GEM Damaskeene were from the Dapper @Dave in KY! A wonderful mid-afternoon shave once we got the heat back on!

    January Injector Focus Shave #10

    Razor: Schick M
    Blade: sChick
    Brush: Yaqi 2 band badger
    Soap: Captain's Choice Bay Rum
    A/S: Captain's Choice Lime
    IMG_20220119_201919718.jpg
The Schick M is just not for me. I set it at 6.5, but still feel stubble on the neck after 3 passes and pickups. After cleaning up 3 prominent weepers revealed themselves.

Nice setup Eric, but sorry about the prominent weepers. I don't know your beard type so I can only guess that you had too much pressure or the blade was spent. If it was a fresh blade or if it had a few uses then the shave should have been fine. The only other possibility is not getting the angle right. I would try it a few more times before giving up on it and just lighten the pressure. Some razors take awhile to dial it in. But hey, that's my take. Personally, I like more aggressive razors so I am assured that I can get a decent shave without buffing.

Second use of blade. Third time out with this one, with none of the shaves very satisfactory. The others work very well; much better efficiency and no blood. I am a fan of higher aggression too. With so many other razors in the stable, this one is not worth the effort. My only disappointment is I remember my Dad used one of these when I was a lad.n

Great shave. What a razor! I'm glad you were able to get one.

I agree about not persisting with a razor you don't get along with. You gave it a good try so nothing to feel bad about. Onward to greener pastures!

Thanks, Eric! It was actually a 75th birthday present from my children. I just took possession of it a few weeks early!

    Greetings,

    Early Morning Shave,

The Treet Dura Sharp has really surprised me this week feeling smooth & sharp and have paired together with each razor...These are tremendous blades considering the inexpensive cost of them....I find the Treet Dura Sharp's smoothness & longevity marginally better than the Treet Classic but overall my reacquaintance with both blades has been a pleasant experience so far....Next week i will be revisiting the Treet Black carbon blade.

An enjoyable 2 pass + pick ups close shave with no errors to report...Finishing the shave off with a small dollop of Nivea Men.

My face is feeling smooth cool, & smelling divine.;)

Keep safe, and enjoy your day ladies & gentlemen.

SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, JANUARY 20, 2022

The razor selected this morning was the Diamond Hayashi 1000 “Nichiri Tokusen “ 6/8. “Nichiri Tokusen” translates as ‘Niri Special Selection”. It certainly was for me. The razor was NOS, and used to belong to my long time dear friend, Bob Nolan, who passed away almost two years ago from Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Bob was a long time straight shaver, and this razor was his pride, yet one he rarely used. The hardest part of getting older isn’t the aches and pains that accrue, but losing friends like Bob. He was a true iconoclast who lived to argue against cherished beliefs and assumptions. He was godfather to my two oldest boys.

He began straight shaving shortly after we were discharged in 1969. That was just Bob! I thought he was nuts at the time. In fact, he’s the reason his godson, Ben, my oldest son took it up almost thirty years ago. And indirectly the reason I tried it for the first time seven years ago.

Bob was in a 45 year relationship with his lifelong partner, Zhen, an amazing Vietnamese woman whose family he helped to emigrate here after the war. She passed the razor on to me after Bob’s death at his request. It was a display queen, rarely used, and in like new condition when I received it.

No longer! It’s still in relatively excellent condition, but is now a regular part of my shave rotation. As I approach my 75th year I realize the true pain of aging isn’t just physical. It’s the loss of good lifelong friends like Bob! As they used to say in that old Budweiser commercial, Bob, “this one’s for you!”

My friend, Glen, put me on to what has become my favorite finisher, the 9 Ball Slate. It’s responsible for the amazing buttery smooth edge on this razor. There are those special straight shaves that feel like one is just scooping off the lather! That was the case. this morning.

Two and a half passes with the Diamond Hayashi 6/8, the Bob Special Selection, left my mug velveteen smooth. The MWF is such an incredibly slick soap. After the thinner lather I like for my mug shaves, I whipped up that nice thick yogurty lather that pairs so well with my Rex Ambassador wide open. Two ATG dome passes and I’m clean and smooth from neck to noggin. RIP, old friend!

RAZOR: Diamond Hayashi 1000 6/8 (Mug), Rex Ambassador ( Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys WH. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot & Thyme AS Balm.

Very nice shave as always Barry! I have heard that Treet are intermediate in efficiency, but apparently they work for you and that's great. Take care.
