Rockwell 6C bites the dust

I was beginning my shave this morning with my Rockwell 6C and the head felt a little loose, so I proceeded to tighten it. I discovered that it wouldn't tighten up. Strange. Then I remembered that I dropped the razor yesterday. Somehow the threads must have gotten stripped when it hit the floor. Oh well. I've had this razor for about four years and I thought it would last a lifetime, but I guess not. I had to finish the shave with my Gillette Fatboy. With the same blade, it felt noticeably nicer. One less choice to make in my daily routine.

You can replace the cap with one from Maggard, the V3, or similar.

I believe it’s the thread inside the handle that is stripped.

Try using another handle. See if another handle would work.

Nope. As I found out the hard way, the post isn't long enough on the V3 cap to go through those thick 6C plates and still engage with the threads in the handle. If the stripped threads are on the cap you can replace the whole HEAD with a Maggard, but not just the cap. If the stripped threads are in the handle, then any modern replacement handle (except Fatip) should work for you.

Also, replacement caps can be purchased from Rockwell - $15 for zamak, $20 for SS. If you want to match the finish on a 6C, then you're stuck with the zamak caps.

What a shame. I guess it just can't handle a drop, unless there was already some kind of light damage present before the drop. I have to hope the 6S would fare better. I know none of us ever intends to drop a razor but it happens unfortunately.

I agree. In the past, I would have recommended the 6C as being “good enough”, as compared to the 6S. Not so sure anymore. I’d still recommend it to a newbie. In any case, I’m perfectly happy using my Fatboy, so I’m not missing the Rockwell.

There are experts out there who can repair stripped threads, just not sure it’s cost effective.
