Greetings, I am new to DE shaving. I had been using the Schick Hydro 5 (best cartridge razor I've tried). I didn't like the $2.40 USD price per cartridge, so I bought an inexpensive Van Der Hagen short-handle TTO and some Dorco ST-300 blades to give it a shot. Initially I had some razor burn, but I am pretty sure this was due to poor preparation/technique. I learned that the Shave Secret oil and the ST-300 blades give me excellent results so far. I feel like my technique is improving, and so are the shaves! I've only been at this for about 2 weeks so far, and I get about 3-4 shaves per blade. I'll keep the Hydro 5 for travel when I use only carry-ons, but I really like the DE experience so far. Solid results from a very modest investment. StewB
Welcome aboard! I am also a Hydro 5 user but then there is nothing like a good DE shave. I use the very affordable Edwin Jagger razor now. There is nothing like a good shave. Aces!
Welcome @StewB glad to have you here with us. As to your journey in to DE shaving 90% is technique and 10% is equipment. I have 40-50 razors, but find I generally stick to 2-3 and run through a variety of blades I like. Honestly I'm a lazy shaver I use Barbasol, a Gillette tech, a good blade and water ..... maybe witch hazel at the end. BTW join the group 30 day focus for invites and helpful tip to great shaves.
