Greetings fellow wet shavers! Looking for a little help in the scent department. Does anyone have any recommendations for a straight up oakmoss shave soap? No combinations. Just straight oakmoss. Thanks! Zyk
You'll need to talk to a soapmaker. As far as I know, there is no straight Oakmoss soap or shave cream. Even soaps and creams labeled "oakmoss" have coriander or lavender added, along with other scents. Oakmoss is usually used as a binder to help scents last longer, not primarily as a scent itself, though it does have it's own scent.
I have a tub of a discontinued soap that is Oakmoss heavy scent, it's called Soap Smooth Moss Mile, it is one of the Mossiest, Grassiest scent one could ask for lol. Even though this could perhaps be a blend of earthy notes, it is about the closest thing since (real deal) Oakmoss is kinda rare these days. As mentioned it can be a skin alregen but what isn't these days.
Good point. The soap and their scent ascribed to by the vendor/manufacturer is in many cases is subjective. Take Oud. A number of manufacturers make an Oud scented soap but they rarely match one to the other. I have encountered the same with scents such as lavender, rose, sandalwood, tobacco, bay rum to name a few. One of the items we encounter on our shaving journey.
When was this, Joseph? This makes me wonder about the oakmoss in Clubman. Or am I "grandfathering" regular Oakmoss with Clubman?
Why is oakmoss prohibited in perfumes? In 2017, after years of ominous committee research and proposal drafting, the European Commission banned the use of three molecules in perfumery — two found in oakmoss, and a synthetic reminiscent of lily of the valley — based on concerns they could cause skin rashes in 1 to 3 percent of the E.U. population.
It's ridiculous, of course. All they have to do is list the ingredients with a warning. True Oakmoss gives perfumes that "soapy"/"green" feel.
Only in the E.U., it's still allowed in American fragrances. It happened about 5 years ago, ...ish. Oakmoss is a lichen, a moss, it grows on trees. Notably, oak. Oakmoss infuses warmth, intensity and depth to an amber or chypre fragrance. Its aroma is very faceted: earthy, bitter, wet, mushroomy, woody, marine (reminiscent of seaweed), leathery and slightly smoky.
