    DE Shave # 394

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Dollar Tree DE
    Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
    Brush: Ever Ready 200T
    Lather: Southern Witchcrafts Tres Matres
Aftershave: Derby City Chop Shop Small Batch Tonic- Winter Reserve
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Alum Block

A fabulous three pass shave with the most budget friendly razor at my disposal, the $1.99 Dollar Tree Razor. Technique trumps tools. This shave represented my first use with a SW soap. The scent profile is as follows:

A floral accord on a petrichor base with citrus top notes.

The scent definitely reminds me of my younger years rolling around in the grass and dirt.

Time to start another busy day. Hope you have a great day gentlemen.
  7. Great shave, Joe!

SOTD WEDNESDAY MORNING, APRIL 13, 2022

Woke up to a 51° F morning with temps finally forecast for the 70’s! I’m very grateful to my grandson, Kevin, who’s been touching up my straight razors for me. In any case, my mug shave thanks to him was first rate. The Smith Bros. 11/16 never disappoints. My usual two and a half passes left my mug smooth as my great granddaughter’s behind!

The noggin shave featured the original Ender’s Speed Razor. The head on these early 1930’s vintage Bakelite handled beauties has a semicircular cutout indicating St. Louis manufacture distinct from the rectangular cutout heads of the 40’s and 50’s when Durham Duplex bought the brand from Simmons Hardware and relocated manufacture to Mystic, CT.

These razors were relegated to the display shelf for all but the most stalwart willing to hone and maintain one of the old original blades. Since they’ve come back into service using Schick Proline B-20 blades with the new adapters or the blade hack, folks are rediscovering why they were so well thought of in their heyday!

Josh, a guy on one of the FB shave forums claims the yellow Schicks injectors work as well. I can’t speak to that since I’ve never tried them. I just know that the Schick Proline B-20’s do work, and since I have eight full magazines of the Prolines, I don’t expect to run short in the near future. Both the Speed Razors and the Speed Shavers deliver great shaves as mine did this morning after the usual two ATG dome passes leaving me velveteen smooth from noggin to neck!

RAZOR: Smith Bros. 11/16 (Mug), Enders Speed Razor (Dome)
    BLADE: Schick Proline B-20 Injector
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE Aluminum Handled Monster Tuxedo Synth
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a splash of Fine Accoutrements Platinum AS.
  9. Thanks Joe.

  12. Great shave, Jeff!
  13. IMG_20220413_151102_897.jpg Shave 26/30. Even though I should have consumed a lot more caffeine before my shave, I managed to get nice results, both in closeness and comfort. One weeper which stopped bleeding by itself. I wanted a little bit of menthol, so I used Skin Bracer.

    Have a great day, gentlemen!

    Ikon B1 Deluxe head.
Lemonwald stainless steel handle (bead blasted and painted).
    Astra SP (fresh).
    Yaqi synthetic brush.
Lakewood Soap Company Smoky Mountain Rain shave soap (sample).
    Timeless Razor shave bowl.
American Tobacco by Andy Hilfiger cologne.

Awesome shave this morning. I loaded a fresh Astra to try out in the Deluxe this morning. The Astra pairs really nice with the Deluxe.....smooth but still efficient.

    Take care everyone!

  15. I decided to share an IAMCDB (Chris Bailey) video as part of my monthly commitment to you guys. It's a video that is hot off the presses with a message to wetshavers that I believe is important and fits with this thread's philosophy that technique trumps tools. Enjoy.

  16. Despite the weeper, it was a nice shave Daniel. Enjoy your day.
  17. Very nice shave Danny. The blue and white handle is cool. Take care.
  18. Sorry to hear about your car difficulties. The transmission after 47 years finally went in my TR6. If I were 10 years younger I’d replace it myself. Ordered a clutch kit and a rebuilt 4 Speed transmission. I’m having the car towed to my son Ben’s place. My grandson, Kevin, has always liked the car. He’s gone riding with me in it since he was knee high to a grasshopper. Unlike most 20 year olds these days, he can drive a standard. He currently motors around in a standard Miata. He’ll be my hands as we do the reinstallation. I’m leaving the car to him. He’s an engineering student. Takes after his dad and grandpa.
  19. Now that’s a great pic! Thanks for sharing, Danny!
  20. Maybe just a bad alternator, although with the computers in new cars you never know!
