SOTD TUESDAY MORNING, APRIL 19, 2022
Sorry for not posting yesterday, but I've unfortunately come to occupy the role of “poor decrepit spouse” to my dear bride. That’ll teach me to marry a woman ten years my junior! I'm convinced that the two Bellini’s she’d had at our Easter dinner affected her perceptions early yesterday morning. But SWMBO is SWMBO! She called my paramedic son, Sam, who pretty much strong armed me into his car, and as a result I spent all day Monday as a learning tool for three UPENN medical students who mistook my affable demeanor as cooperation. Anyway, chalk up one perfectly wasted day.
Today's mug shave featured my Dubl Duck Goldedge 11/16 which I touched up on Naniwa 12k Super Stone and the new-to-me Suehiro 20k after my return from the Kildares last evening. My son, Ben has been lusting after my 9 Ball Slate. So we traded, the 9 Ball for the Suehiro 20k. Part of the deal is for me to get access to his garage and my old automotive tools which now reside there. I’m replacing the clutch and transmission in my TR6 with a new clutch kit from Moss Motors and a rebuilt transmission from Foreign Car Enterprises out of Kansas City, Mo. The work will be done at Ben’s.
My 20 yr old grandson, Kevin, bless his heart, trashed my original transmission while I was being rehabbed! He’s volunteered to do the heftin’, totin’, and wrenching necessary to replace it under both his dad and my guidance. His dad helped with the last install about 30 yrs ago in the early 90’s. Got the clutch kit on Saturday. The rebuilt transmission arrives today. Work will begin this evening. Anyway the mug shave was excellent. Two and a half passes left my face wonderfully smooth. The Dome shave featured my French Spadson OC. This safety razor dates from the 20’s or 30’s and supposedly featured two different levels of aggression, depending upon which side of the DE head was used.
For years I shaved with it during “Mayhem” month at my home site, the “Shave Den” and used to describe the shaving experience as “assaultive” as opposed to “aggressive”. There was always copious amounts of red fluid involved in its use. That was until my retired tool & die breakfast buddy, Pete, took a look last year. Apparently the handle that came with the razor wasn’t the correct one. After I replaced it with an extra French Famex handle I had lying around the problem was solved. The shave is amazingly close, and honestly I can detect no difference in aggression between either side of the head. The two pass ATG dome shave left me velveteen smooth from noggin to neck!
