IMG_20220420_165059_434.jpg I wasn't going to shave today, but couldn't resist. First shave with the La Toja stick, and I love it. Fantastic soap, and I happen to enjoy the scent a lot.

The blade performed just as well as on the first shave, if not even better. Very comfortable shave.

    Have a great day, gentlemen!

Thank you Gary let's give credit to Doc Pythagorea (chuk yuk yuk yuk),. Oh, and @Primotenore himself.

SOTD WEDNESDAY MORNING, APRIL 20, 2022

Planning to start work on installing a new transmission and clutch in my ‘75 TR6. Bought it new in ‘75. It’s already been through restoration back in the early 90’s. Pulling the old one is a pain, but fortunately we don't have to pull the engine. Access is through the floor of the passenger compartment, but it’s tight close-in work. Fortunately, most of the grunt work will be done by my grandson. Better his knuckles than mine! Particularly when pulling the old transmission. One good way of keeping an old, retired engineer occupied is supervising his eager grandson, who’s under orders from SWMBO to keep me in a purely supervisory role. Hah! Like that’ll happen.

Had to get a good mug shave together first. The Frederick Reynolds 9/16 rattler grind always delivers the goods while belting out the “Buttering Toast” song. Rattlers were ground horizontally instead of vertically. I’ve toyed with replacing the scales on this old straight, but they are original, and although worn with some very minor cracking around the hinge pin still quite serviceable. And although I’m generally not an “original condition” guy, the patina on this old girl looks good. Two and a half passes put the baby to bed and left yours truly’s mug very smooth.

The G.E.Jones Shake Sharp razor, 'the razor that sharpens itself’, looks like an SE but uses DE blades - although only exposing one side of the blade at a time. It also has a hone built into a cunning glide that was designed to run against the old carbon steel DE blades of the late 30’s to sharpen by shaking the razor back and forth. WWII delayed its introduction to the mid 40’s at which time the cheaper SS DE blades and a post depression headset did away with any interest in resharpening. The first Bakelite handled Mk1 models were well received. The Mk2 nickel plated models didn’t sell well. The gold plated models did, making the former a rarer find. My nickel plated Shake Sharp loaded with the usual 2 stacked Feather blades delivered two magnificent ATG dome passes leaving your happy narrator porcelain smooth from noggin to neck.

RAZOR: Frederick Reynolds Rattler 9/16 (Mug), G.E. Jones nickel plated Mk2 Safet Razor (Dome)
BLADES: 2 Stacked Feather DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: JR #374 Rosewood Handled Silvertip Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Osage Rub AS Splash.

Thanks again, Gary for the education! Glad you’re happy and feeling good about the new job. I could certainly use your help on this transmission and clutch install! Kevin’s a good kid, but sometimes it's just easier to do it myself.
