Fabulous Friday morning shave with the final installment of this week’s Declaration Grooming focus. The DG Original is a sandalwood and bergamot scent which paired nicely with the musk of the PAA Black Bot.

The Genco razor delivered a close three pass shave. The alum was relatively silent missus a little report on the upper lip. No big deal.

I am smelling good and ready for a morning with my mother taking her around to do some shopping.

Also I was unpleased with the work down at Cactus. No problems there except I was too carefree. Cheeks&sideburns were fine. A little better at N. Porcupine, but the cut occurred at South Porcupine. Sinatra's favorite aftershave(Agua Lavenda de Puig)went on well and smells good, but it didn't ease the cut much. Very Excellent.

fabulous 2 passer with the tech hybrid/nacet -3 combo.
tried out the don marco soap and got a fine lather.
i would say this isn't as slick as the unlabeled i used a day ago,
but slick enough and a great product,does the job,lovely scent.
clubman vanilla to finish.
awesome.

i am seeing a touch of brassing on the hybrid's safety bars.
not too worried as this set wasn't complete and the case was trashed.
a mint mint example is highly collectable and expensive,so it may be a while before i find another.
maybe a replate..we'll see.
for now i use it for what it does best..

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, MAY 6, 2022

Woke up to a light rain that my Dark Sky app tells me will continue nonstop through Sunday morning. Last night I took one of my favorite razors, the Alexis Witte Copperhead 6/8, which has always maintained a quite serviceable edge, and ran it through a combo I’m really starting to appreciate, the Naniwa 12k followed by the Suehiro 20k with a finish on the 4 sided pasted constroption. The blade steel on this Witte is awesome! Just a fantastic three pass mug shave this morning. It felt like the whiskers were melting away.

I picked up another A. Witte bearing an “Over the Top” mark on the auction site last night for $11. It looks to be in good condition. The Alexis Witte Cutlery Co. had offices in both Germany and the US. They operated from a factory at 81 Warren St. in lower Manhattan from the 1880’s moving to a new factory in Brooklyn in 1917 where they continued to produce razors and scales until 1930. The company produced razors under the Classic, Witte, Hustler, Copperhead, Goldbug, Over the Top, Solace, Lily, and Beauty marks. The Great Depression put an end to their business.

I attended a Shaving Collectibles Show in Cincinnati in October of 2019 where I was able to obtain some relatively rare safety razors, among which were two 1905 Gillette Single Rings. The original silver plating was in excellent condition, and thankfully, Matt Pisarcik of Razor Emporium attended and shared some pointers on maintaining the plating. After really enjoying my mug shave this morning, I was on a bit of a self indulgent high as I plowed through my dome stubble. The shave gods apparently took exception and I ended up with a nick on the back of my noggin. Otherwise, an excellent shave leaving me velveteen smooth from slightly damaged noggin to neck.

PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE Aluminum Handled Monster Synth
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys WH. Finished with Royall Lyme AS/Cologne.

You will gain the muscle memory using both hands and it will be comfortable. However, there are people who shave with one hand, but I find it awkward. Also, it's harder to see what you are doing. Therefore imo, using 2 hands is the best way to go.

I see that even Geofatboy recommends switching hands in this manner so, I am working on it. I am right handed but, I didn't do bad using my left today. This type of razor felt easier to control than the japanese style but, I will continue to work with both. Maybe once I get better with the DX, I will give the clone Jeff sent me a try again. It's all about the angle. When it's correct, the razor glides nicely. I took more than twice as long this morning and it paid off. I got cheeks and neck exceptionally close with the DX. I finished with the Flatboy. It shaves close as well. I will do the complete shave next shave day with the Flatboy. If you like really feeling the blade, the Flatboy is worth looking at IMHO. YMMV.

I can only ride about 100 miles before my kidneys tell me to stop. I am hoping my upgraded suspension will make that better. It already feels nicer to ride! I refuse to let it get me down or sit on my butt! I already do that enuff! I spend days sitting here at the computer...now with nicer weather, I can get out more. Nice to be able to walk around the yard again without knee deep snow! I still try to do as much mechanical work that I can. I am a tinkerer and if I can fix something, I will. Not afraid to try. Most times I can figure things out.

Thanks, Joe! Love my Copperhead! I’m sure you got a great edge! You’re using a Naniwa 12k and the 9 Ball, if my memory serves! If I got it wrong, no surprise! Both great finishers. My son has my 9 Ball! Bought the 20k awhile ago! It’s the only stone I don’t really have to strop afterwards! Shaved twice without stropping, although I prefer the edge the Constroption delivers after honing.

Your DX shaves almost exactly like a traditional straight! The only thing you’re missing is maintenance. If you want great open edge shaves without maintenance you’ve got the ideal tool!

Morning shave was awesome! My first shave with the Artist DX was VERY nice! I did one pass on my cheeks and neck with the "Guard" blade. Then I took that blade out and put in a Light blade. I got closer on my cheeks and neck than I ever have before and didn't cut myself this time! I switched to the Flatboy to clean up and I DID cut myself with that one! I cut my lower lip! This razor is a very nice one too! It gives you LOUD feedback and you most definitely feel the blade. I really like this one and will keep it in the rotation!
Sandalwood Proraso cream and the cool Blue pre-shave cream. Whipped in my lather bowl using my Simpson Trafalgar T3 synthetic brush.

Finished with the balm and after-shave splash by Proraso.

My first foray into the true straight edge was nice! I have a better grip on the correct angle and them light blades shaved me NICE and close! I like aggressive razors so, I would highly recommend the Flatboy. The angle is different but I found it in no time at all. It is a steeper angle. I REALLY like this razor!

I will use this combo thru the weekend. I may not have to shave tomorrow tho...I got closer than I have ever gotten with the DX!

I decided to shave with Arko this evening because it is an easy, slick lather.
Max has never disappointed me and gave me an awesome 2 pass shave without any incidents. I can't say enough good things about Max. It was my 64th shave with it in almost 2 years and I still enjoy using this razor. I never had buyer's remorse with it.
Didn't get any any alum feedback. Witch hazel and the Old Spice topped this nice shave. Enjoy your evening.
