SOTD SATURDAY MORNING, MAY 7, 2022
It’s been raining nonstop since yesterday morning, and is slated to continue through tomorrow! What better way to boost one’s spirits than a great shave! I'm really liking the edges coming off the Naniwa SS 12k/Suehiro Debado 20k combo. As a guy who initially was reluctant about personal edge maintenance on his straight razors, I’ve found that honing has evolved into almost a regular night time meditative practice for me before bed.
The Dubl Duck Goldedge was a joy to shave the mug with this morning. I was tempted to go four passes, but quite honestly there was a paucity of whiskers left after just two. So I compromised at two and a half, with the third half pass focusing on just my neck. I realized that the diagonal slicing strokes followed by some selective flatblading cleared away most, if not all, the neck stubble roughness leaving me very smooth. The kind of smooth neck I know my hand will return to over the course of the day.
My favorite modern artisan DE is the Colonial Razor Silversmith. Although I was not a fan of the initial handle that came with the razor, I really like the redesigned handle. So much so that I like to use it with their AC razor, the Colonial General V2. Sadly, both of these models are no longer currently available, but there is a new aluminum DE model under development that will represent an evolved version of the Silversmith. The two pass ATG noggin shave this morning put the icing on the cake and didn’t reopen yesterday’s nick. I’m smooth as a peach, as my Swedish friend, Hans, likes to say about a great shave, from noggin to neck!
