  6. I like a good challenge. I have kicked it up a notch if I was able to shave with the light blade and not nick! I am impressed. I pretend I am shaving with a feather for real. Feathers are light touch. I can get away with a little pressure when using the DE razors but none at all with the open edge. I see it as a milestone. Now, to get comfy with BOTH hands. I'm trying to train my left hand!;)
  7. I got a nice really close shave late yesterday afternoon so, I won't have to shave till tonight or tomorrow. Probably tomorrow. I am trying to tell when the Feather DX needs a new ProGuard blade. It still shaves good after 6 shaves. I won't put a light blade in that one yet. But, I will keep a light blade in the japanese style. I just replaced the light blade it had. The edge was looking a bit rough under magnifier.

Today I went for a mild razor, the Gillette Super Slim Twist. Same Bic Blade as yesterday, and the combination did the trick well. Proraso blue seems to never disappoint, it's a wonderful cream.

I haven't talked a lot about the brush, but I'll have to say that I'm very happy with it. Love the size and the knot is good. It might not be my favorite brush, because I love the RR Plissofts, but it certainly is very good and worth every penny.

    Have a great day, gentlemen!
  9. Your muscle memory in your brain will eventually adjust to be proficient with both hands....As @Trigger (Joe) recommended, try practice lathering your face, and using a 'Butter knife' with your left hand and go through the motions to shave it from your face, applying near no pressure as always... Patience, adding near no -Pressure, Technique & shaving confidence are what's needed for good shaving results. Unfortunately, you can sometimes myself included be too over zealous with this shaving hobby of ours to get perfect results with each shave which can lead to unnecessary irritation & cuts... Take it easy, and enjoy your new open edge shaving experience. Yours-Barry.:happy088:

    SE # 255 - MICROMATIC & DARKFALL MONDAY

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: GEM Micromatic Bullet Tip
    Blade: GEM Stainless
    Brush: Epsilon Horse Hair
    Lather: Declaration Grooming Darkfall
    Aftershave: Declaration Grooming Darkfall
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Alum Block
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm
    Thayer’s Witch Hazel - Original

Wonderful shave in the Northern den this morning. The weather here is beginning to warm up. The pool is scheduled to be opened today which wil make SWMBO very happy.

I had a great three pass shave with the MMBT. The Darkfall soap is marching toward it’s demise as the Edmund Fitzgerald will come calling at some point this Summer. The soap will be a repurchase from DG with their Milksteak formula.

It seems that I have had this blade in the MMBT for almost forever. It is still delivering phenomenal shaves so binning it is not in it’s near future. It delivered an extremely close and comfortable shave.

I hope you all have a great day gentlemen.
  12. Terrific shave Daniel! Simpson brushes are usually good quality. I am assuming that is a T3 synthetic. However, I have been known to be incorrect. Lol!
  13. VERY humid this morning! It will be nice to shave late this afternoon or tonight before bed. On another note, I have a few goodies arriving today! But, I am anxious to see the arrival of my latest eBay purchases next week. Two vintage SR that look brand new! One being a Puma with a Brazilian Rosewood case. I figure that could be vintage 1930's to as late as the 1970s. Importation of Brazilian rosewood was banned in the 70's I think. I do not know when Puma stopped making these but, I have read that they are highly prized. Does anybody know?

I will post pics when they come. Today it's another Gillette Tech. Travel size with an extra head that I got for almost nothing!
  14. Very nice approach. Yes, accumulating straights can become additicting.
  15. Interesting looking razor! Nice setup as always, Joe

  17. Thank you Gary. The MMBT as well as the MMOC are efficient razors. I am glad to have them in my collection.

  18. Thank you Joe and I did.
  19. Thanks for the shout out Barry! I had previously mentioned that I had to have a BBS straight shave every time in my early journey. Now, it's important to look like I have a BBS shave instead of actually having one. I used to do 3 passes, but with improved technique, I am usually down to 2 passes with minor pickups. Hogie will eventually will find what works for him. I have many straight shaves under my belt and I am still tweaking my technique.
  20. Thank you Daniel. Your are correct, the bottom plate is upside down. I corrected post picture.
