DE SOTD, May 17th, 2022- Still testing some aggressive razor heads I bought recently.

Razor : Yaqi Knights helmet- Mfg 2019> aggressive range, I use a ridding the bar method to try and control the blade feel and it works, I keep trying not to forget coming in hot with the razor(plunking on skin) because it will nick you for sure. The razor works well for those folks who like a lot of blade feel, you will not be disappointed IMO. Light pressure works very well. Also I like short handle when shaving steep angle.
Blade : Gillette 7oClock SP(1) sharp & smoooth with reasonable longevity.
Soap : Gillette Pure cream, nice unique scent with excellent lather qualities. Make great ubber lather.
Brush : Yaqi Tailcoat 24mm synthetic, excellent lather creator, cloud like soft tips, nice scrubber + excellent lather painter.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Proraso Green with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results :CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + 2 weepers=[IMG] excellent shave with my Yaqi Knights helmet with a Gillette 7oClock SP blade.

The wayward Pipe returns after a rehone and examination by Glen. He didn’t detect any problems with the steel but I’ll be keeping an eye on it. If it doesn’t start to degrade after a few shaves I’ll have to assume I somehow, somewhere dinged it. Smooth and clean now :happy088:

**-1810, which was the year Ed Pinaud was born. 20 years later, he created his perfumery led by Clubman A.S. I think of it this way-without his birth, he couldn't go on to create his perfumery 20 years later. Must be why they have 1810 on most Clubman products.

SOTD WEDNESDAY MORNING, MAY 18, 2022

This morning I shaved with the first LeCoultre replaceable blade Frameback I acquired. These razors have been mistakenly identified as French. They are actually Swiss, but from the French as opposed to the German part of Switzerland. The LeCoultre family, originally French, settled in Sentier, Switzerland in 1593. Their blacksmithing business got started about a century and a half later by Abraham Joseph I, born in 1711.

His grandson, Jacques, a blacksmith, along with his great grandson, Antoinne, a watchmaker started the replaceable blade straight razor business around 1830. Their unique contribution emerged out of their blacksmithing expertise, allowing for the consistent manufacture of very hard (Rockwell 64), replaceable, tempered steel blades for their razors. By the 1860’s the razors were marketed as luxury items with “blades only requiring sharpening every 10 years”, and were sold in jewelry and very high end cutlery merchants.

Honing them, as a result, turns out not to be a trivial endeavor. This first LeCoultre razor arrived shave ready, requiring only touchups. Honing my second LeCoultre after receiving sage honemeister guidance reminded me of my Klas Tornblom. Setting the bevel on that razor required almost twice the effort as a Sheffield or Solingen steel blade on my 1k Chosera. The resulting edge though was delightfully sharp and buttery smooth. Three slow pleasant mug passes with this first razor put the baby to bed, leaving yours truly velveteen smooth.

Adjustable safety razors, as it turns out are pretty much wasted on me. When I first acquired my Rex Ambassador three years ago, it had some issues. Fortunately, Matt Pisarcik truly does stand by his razors, and remedied the initial issues on his dime thanks to the generous guarantee that comes with every Rex razor. I realized early on in its use that I prefer shaving my dome with it wide open. It is without doubt one of my most efficient safety razors. The two pass ATG noggin shave following my mug endeavor left me velveteen smooth from noggin to neck.

RAZOR: LeCoultre Frameback with No. 2 blade (Mug), Rex Ambassador (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Alpha Shaving T400 with 26mm Silvertip Badger Ferrule
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys WH. Finished with Canoe Original EdT AS Splash.

The Williams Mug Shaving Soap lathered well with the Jayaruh #423 Badger Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the No Date Stamp Tech Razor with a Gillette Silver Blue Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Granddad's Blend AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

    L’Oréal Barber Club Facial Wash
    Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole
    Junjie/Wilkinson Sword day 9
    Nivea Sensitive SC
    Nivea Sensitive ASB
    Hega AS Splash

Back to the basics for today - the Nivea Sensitive cream and balm are readily available in almost every pharmacy here in Montreal where I live and for cheap money. To be honest the scent is nothing to write home about but the lather and skincare are excellent. The matching balm smells kind of meh but it does a great job of soothing and moisturizing my skin. The Hega aftershave from Sweden has a very neutral scent and it’s also very soothing. Two passes were enough for a great, comfortable shave!

Be well and safe - enjoy your day!
