  3. It was another very fine shave this morning. The DX got me closely shaved with no effort. I am getting better with my left hand. I got one little weeper on my chin. With the DX, my chin is the tough spot to shave now. I am amazed at how close this razor gets me while barely touching my face! :D

Today the razor was my Feather DX with the 3rd shave using the ProGuard blade I have loaded.
The preshave was the Proraso White. The soap was the Genuine Ogallala "Bay Rum & Vanilla" bloomed with hot water.
Whipped in my Shave Nation lather bowl with my Simpson synthetic Trafalgar T3 brush. Nice backbone with this brush and whipping the lather is easy.
I did a 3-pass shave with no cleanup except to grab my tiny Tech to shave the top of my head when I used the last of the soap from the brush & bowl to wash my face and over the top of my head to shave it.

Shave Nation alum bar raise a little feedback. The only nick was on my chin but not too bad. Finished with the new Captian's Choice "Bay Rum" aftershave. It has witch hazel in it and I like the scent. Kinda citrus smell. Nice.

I hope all have a fine shave today too!

  4. Super shave, pic and setup Hogie. It's a very good sign that you are getting more comfortable using your non-dominant hand. You are at the cusp of shaving with both hands like it was a normal every day occurrence. Take care.

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, JUNE 3, 2022

Just a good mug shave this morning with the Wade & Butcher 7/8. Unfortunately, it wasn’t even close to the quality of my Iwasaki shave yesterday. Even though the razor went through the same honing progression, “ye olde Sheffield steel” couldn’t hold a comparable edge to the Iwasaki’s Swedish silver steel. But then again, a century’s improvement in steel technology can’t be dismissed lightly. Don’t get me wrong; three passes led to a very smooth result. I guess I’m now just a dyed-in-the-wool Japanese and NYS steel straight razor fanboy.

I’ve spent the last few dome shaves using my Durham Enders Speed shavers and the Eclipse Red Ring yesterday. While that shave was ok, it wasn’t quite as good as the prior Speed Shaver shaves. In fact, there seemed to be more stubble than usual. So I grabbed the nickel plated G.E. Jones Shake Sharp SE which hasn’t seen much use lately. Then I grabbed two Feather DE blades, carefully stacked and loaded them into the razor and had at that stubble! Two ATG noggin passes and all was right with the world. All in all a decent overall shave that left me acceptably smooth from neck to noggin.

RAZOR: Wade & Butcher 7/8 (Mug), G.E. Jones Nickel Plated Shake Sharp SE (Dome)
BLADE: 2 Stacked Feather DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE LE #007 Knurled Aluminum Handle Hybrid Knot
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot and Thyme AS Balm.
  6. awesome shave Gary.

  9. Ogalalla and the Captain must have been a nice combo for Bay Rum.

  10. I always was repelled by the prices of some AS and colognes at local stores and had not bought in a LONG time. Now, I know where to look for great scents at a fraction of the price. I now have a few different scents as well as all the balms that I like a lot. Balms are not being used as much now due to it being summer. I also got the Captain's Choice "Italia" AS as well. Nice stuff! :)

  11. Yes, this was a good combo. I am now a BIG fan of Bay Rum soaps & AS.
    The Ogallala lathers really easy

  12. I like them too, but hold off on the cloves, please. The Stephan Bay Rum that I have has SOME clove scent, but it's nicely mixed in with other ingredients that make Bay Rum great.

  13. The bottle says: Alcohol, Witch Hazel,Essential Oils and Extracts, Glycerin

My nose detects citrus but, it could be wrong.

    good morning gents.
back to work shaves for a couple of days.
fine lather from the newish tallow based hssc soap.
    dense low structure,shiny and slick.
finished with the witch hazel based aftershave.
it's just now stopped feeling sticky, though i shaved 45 minutes ago.
scent smells like baking cookies.similar to moon old school soap.
    am i complaining? no
    overall ,nice products.
i've been spoiled by better products? maybe.
will try it again but will most likely pass it on.

  17. That Feather DX does amaze me. So close after just 2 passes WTG & ATG. I did a double ATG today to get close. Very pleasant. I am still awkward trying to do my chin tho. Upper lip mustache area is easy now

  18. I'm comfortable enough using my non-dominant hand for shaving. I'm a lefty, but shoot golf and eat right-handed. Besides, it appears to me it would be quite difficult and awkward to use-as in my case-the left hand to shave the right side of your face and neck.
  19. Fine shave, Gary! Those Tech razors do look nice! I think I have enough Techs though I am tempted!
    Nice brush!:eatdrink013:
  20. Is the "H" on those products HENDRIX, by any chance?
