I also have a really nice Star 1912 coming. GEM blades will be here Saturday. I got 2 packs of 10 ea for 20 bucks. How is that for price? Where is best place to get these blades?
I prefer aggressive razors, but within the last year, I have come to appreciate my milder razors. I use to shave with them when I have the rare cut or I want to shave with less than 1 day's growth. However, I have gotten great success using milder shaves with 2 day's growth. Now, would I buy another milder razor? No.
It looks like new! So, I hadta get it! LOL I got it for $15 I imagine the blades can shave more times too being a more rigid blade. I can get a week out of a Feather blade if I push it but, I have so many blades that I now use 2 times, snap in half, and file in the round filing cabinet (trashcan). I will have to play by ear with the single edge since they cost about $1 each blade. (Unless somebody steers me to less expensive blades)
I get inspired to do my shave setup by others who post awesome photos of their setups. Some are very artistic!
Very nice shave this morning. I didn't count the time I was loading today, but it must have been at least 0:40. I need to make a habit of trying to get at least a minute of loading done. The more soap the merrier. Having said that, I'm still going to stick to the 2 passes-after the 2 I feel my shave is well done. Anyway, first pass was great-no problems. I did want to be careful around the area of that bad cut from the other day, and I succeeded. There's still some redness there, but no blood. It's been reduced to a polka-dot. Cheeks&Sideburns are great, as is the jawline all the way across. Careful work along all of North Porcupine, and no issues. Ditto Cactus. No cuts, no Kicks, and the aforementioned polka-dot. Osage for the A.S., and Passion4Men(House of Elizabeth Taylor)to finish off an Outta This World Excellent shave(I think I can give it the top grade, as there was no further damage to the old cut-it's healing). Lesson learned-crank up at the loading dock,
You mention your 2 days growth. That's what it was for me when I was in the hospital for a short "visit". (No shaving, but it was lovely of them that they allowed you to brush your teeth, lol)..

Excellent shave Hogie. I use a similar post shave routine with the left over soap. I brush the remaining lather on my face and neck. I let it sitting on the face while I rinse out the bowl and brush. I remove the soap with handfuls of hot water followed by a handful of the ice water from my brush scuttle. I proceed with the alum on the wet face, white hazel, balm and splash.
