The shave with the Hawk went better today. I was going to try it with a ProGuard blade but, after one pass, I did not like the result so, I put the Professional blade back in. This is the blade for this razor. I got a nice close shave with the Professional blade by riding the cap. You must ride the cap with the open comb Hawk! It was actually very pleasant! I will continue with the Hawk to get this razor tamed.
Washed face and added HOT water to my lather bowl/brush and put a little HOT water on top of the soap to bloom it for loading the brush. HOT washcloth to the face.
Pre-shave - Proraso White
Shave soap - Ogallala Bay Rum with Vanilla
Brush - Simpson's X2 badger
Razor - the Hawk v3 with open comb
blade - Feather Professional (one pass with the ProGuard blade before switching blades) so, the photo lies!
I had a good 2-pass shave with a little cleanup on my neck. I did manage to re-open the 2 cuts on my neck but did not open the one under my nose. The Hawk with the open comb MUST ride the cap! Very efficient when you do it right! I did get a bit of burn from the alum bar due to trying to get close with the ProGuard blade....too many passes with that blade. The Professional blade was actually nice when I rode the cap. ProGuard was mean! I was trying to shave with it like I would a DE razor and you can't with the Open Comb. I think I am on the right path to tame this beast!
Alum bar stopped the leaks and feedback was less than yesterday. I would have had almost none if I had started out with the Professional blade. Dab of Proraso balm and a splash of Bay Rum AS. I will try again tomorrow. Same setup.
Hope all have a fine shave and great day
