Today I went for my third session with a trainer at our local gym. Two herniated discs in my neck have been dealing me misery starting in lower neck radiating down to my shoulder and upper back; after a nerve block to calm the nerve down, doc said the way to live with this going forward is to strengthen the muscles that support my neck, hence paying a trainer to make sure I don’t make things worse.

 

My doctor's advice has always been to swing your neck(and face)back and forth three times. I've had neck issues, but I hope they aren't as serious as I am afraid to think.

 

I do that to keep my neck limber due that back in the 90's I had my 5-6 vertebrae fused and I don't want to loose any more range of motion. I've had many doctors and anesthesiologist amazed at my range for have that surgery.

 

I went for a 7 mile walk, after work, in 97° temp.

 

Tried my hand at tooling leather. I used the wood burner to write my name on it.

 

We went to the pistol range today. I shot the Walther Colt 1911 .22 caliber. Nice weight & ergonomics. (I prefer a heavier pistol.)

 

Nice. I need one for plinking. It would pay for itself after a a few hundred rounds of practice. I didn't know Walther made a licensed copy of the Colt 1911.
I own three Colt 1911's in .45 cal. A near mint 70's series, built in 1970, a 70's series Gold Cup given to me in 1983, and a stainless 80's series for everyday use at work, for almost 30 years. The 80's series has been heavily modified, for reliability. The older Colts were notoriously picky with hollowpoints.
I also have a couple more 1911's from other manufacturers. I like 1911's BTW.

 

I fixed a clogged vacuum cleaner with a wire hanger.

 

And now it reeealy sucks.

 

Cleaned out the gutters.

 

I did a bit more leatherwork. I made a knife pouch from a kit. I did all the dye work, tooling & sewing. ( I don’t have the skill to make this from scratch.)

I installed a cattle fence gate. Had to use a pneumatic drill and portable air tank to drill holes in the fence posts for gate hinges, because there's no power up in the North field. That crummy pneumatic drill is an air hog, though, and I had to make several trips to recharge the pressure in the tank just to drill two little 12" deep 3/4" holes! Got the gate hung, though. Next time I'll use a portable generator and an electric drill.

This morning my inner Marlin Perkins snapped this action shot of not one but two specimens of the elusive Florida Grappling lizard, seen here in a customary wrestling match. Bigger one appears to be going for a Half Nelson and a takedown victory.

 

Push mowed with an old time reel mower. 94° out. Almost ran over this critter. It's fine.
