It was another VERY pleasant shave today. The alum bar gave zero feedback again today. For now, I don't need a challenge from my shavettes when the other razors are SO nice to shave with! Today was my New Model short comb vintage 1930s razor. Gillette New Model open comb (short comb) razor with a fresh Permasharp blade Mitchell's Wool Fat whipped with my Simpson "Berkley" brush TOBS Herbal Gel pre-shave Thayers toner and Geo F Trumper "Skin Food" Proraso AS splash It's so nice getting back to my vintage Gillettes! I did a pleasant 3-pass shave with no cleanup. Very smooth! No cuts, nicks, or weepers! I hadta smash the soap down into the mug to fill in the hole I had created in the middle. MWF is so nice!
The seller of the Micromatic that turned out to be worn or damaged has shipped me a new razor. I should have it this week. Nice! Complete package is really nice. The razor had the hooks or stops at the leading edge of the blade gone. Someone either wore it out or filed off the stops! The blade was not secure and cut me several times! My other OC Micromatic is nice to shave with so, this told me something was wrong.
The Hawk rules! My first pleasant shave with a mild blade. I had been using guarded blades with this open comb base plate. VERY aggressive so, you MUST ride the cap!
