This morning I selected some stuff that I haven’t used in a long time - for example the Paradise Frost soap. This soap is tallow based, the lather is so good, it’s quite slick, the scent is lovely - it’s a very citrusy type with grapefruit notes which give a good refreshing effect, and it’s got a bit of a menthol sensation as well as pretty good skincare. The Nip Man balm is something else which I haven’t used for some time so I enjoyed it very much today - it’s so soothing, cooling, as well as moisturizing. Finally, the Black Powder aftershave from Folsom & Company went on icy cold along with its beautiful, long lasting scent. I got up relatively late so I only did two passes but I still managed to get a great shave!

Sunday Schick shave, July24, 2022

Razor : Schick adjustable injector M3- Mfg 1970-72, excellent adjustable, well built and designed, still requires light touch for great results. I find the lower settings aggressive enough in my opinion.
Blade : Personna SS PTFE(8) very sharp, great longevity, smooths out nicely + predictable.
Soap : Yaqi Green - nice fresh clean scent with excellent lather qualities.
Brush : Yaqi Sagrada Familia 22mm 2band badger, excellent lather generator, pillow like soft tips, nice scrubber + great lather painter.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG 2.5 + ATG 2.5 + pickups 3 setting.
Post shave : Yaqi Green AS with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results :CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + 1 chin weeper= Excellent shave with my Schick adjustable M3 with a Personna coated blade.

Swedish Razor day for me. I had a very smooth 2 pass shave, that left me BBS. Zero issues. Very nice shave, for a Near Wedge.

I am breaking out my oldest double edge razor for this week, the 1905 Gillette Double Ring Razor.

Tea Tree Body Bar lathered well with Jayaruh #30 badger brush. Two passes and touch ups with Gillette Double Ring Razor with a Gillette Silver Blue Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Osage Rub. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

 

As I said, it’s a perfect substitute. If I was blindfolded and someone held this soap and aftershave and the Shulton Old Spice soap and aftershave in front of my face and told me to smell them I could never tell which is which.

What a pity that this Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo soap was discontinued because I think it’s magnificent just like all the Glacials and all of Rod’s other soaps - the scent is so beautiful, the tallow formula gives it such fantastic lather with so much slickness, the menthol sensation is killer cold, and the skincare is perfect. The Prep and the Rubby Dubby Doo were a great finish. Three passes left me mega BBS - a most delightful shave!

Shave of the Week Starting 25 July 2022

Gilllette Slim Adjustable razor
Gillette 7 O'Clock Green blade
PAA Amber Aerolite brush
Seaforth SS (vintage)
Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe
Assorted A/S but mostly Taconic Eucalyptus Mint

Continuing to use the vintage Seaforth. It's a really good SS and being it has little to no scent helps. I like it. 1st time out with the PAA brush. It's really big but works just fine. All in all, a fine shave and my face is happy. Now go enjoy your day folks.

 

I notice your very positive reaction to Shulton Old Spice. The history of Old Spice is a sad one. The fellas at P&G said "Yeah, we know Old Spice has been so popular over the years, but in this era of "change", let's change it around a little to see what happens. We don't care that the great scent will be gone, we just want to change for the sake of change.". Sad...all I can say.
