I am getting ready to go to evening services so a shave is in order. Also, I refreshed the blade on my pasted strop so I wanted to see how Max shaves with this amount of facial hair. Max did an excellent job. Did 2.5 passes for BBS shave without errors. I normally don't try for BBS, but I had enough soap for at least 5 passes as you can see below so why not go for the extra 1/2 pass.

Did get some alum feedback, but thankfully, it was not an ew, ee, ouch, ouch sensation. After the witch hazel, I splashed on the Aqua Velva Ice Blue aftershave for a nice, cool and refreshing end to this shave. Have a great afternoon guys!

  4. I switched blades to another Derby Extra, and it went a bit better for me no nicks but still a little dragging.

After this month, I am going to try a different blade.

I am wondering... would buying a different shave bowl help me make more lather? I did rule out that it is my water by using distilled water once, and it made no difference. My later is good, but not great in that I keep having to whip up more for each pass.

  5. It may be that you need a sharper blade than a Derby. Each brand of blade has a different level of sharpness and smoothness. It's recommended to get sample packs of different blades to see which ones are compatible with your skin and beard type. Also, different razors have different efficiencies so that a Feather blade ( most aggressive) can be tamed with a mild razor or a lower setting on an adjustable and vice-versa.
As far as lathering, you may not have enough soap in your bowl to give you a three pass shave. It depends on the soap brand. Soaps like Cella, Proraso, Arko and Razorock are super easy to get loads of lather. Bottom line: it can be frustrating to figure out how each razor, blade and soap will perform based on the aforementioned variables. Through your observations and experiences in correcting problems and faulty techniques, then it will come together.

  7. That's a wonderful plan - in theory. In practice... I declared twice that I "wasn't going to buy any new gear of any sort this year"... My tagline shows how those two attempts turned out... Too many nice new razor or brush models or great new soaps got trailed across my path, and each time, I fell for it.
  8. I think I must have missed a few relevant posts along the way. What kind of brush are you using and what soap?

  9. My wonderful plan, has stayed in place the last few months...I will try my best to keep it that way...We shall see!

  10. Thanks Joe. Razorock happens to be one of the easiest soaps to lather and thus I added a tiny bit more soap than usual.

  12. Today was the first of 5 straight shaves with Osage Rub as the aftershave. The Barbasol Pacific Rush is getting down in quantity, thus it may be time for a re-purchase soon. But I got a good amount on this morning. No problems anywhere. One pass. Still experimenting with shave patterns down at Cactus. Course I don't want to get close to the Adam's Apple as I do this. Outta This World Excellent.

  16. My back is killing me. I may not shave today and plan on laying on bed. Popping them pain pills they give me for my kidneys. I have Polycystic kidney disease and this back pain is making the kidney pain flare up. Hard to do much of anything. I did get up so I could send the baffles back that I had bought to replace the ones on the bike until I discovered that the muffler had come apart inside and grenaded itself. I had to drive to town to drop the package off for UPS. I have never been this sore! All from being bent over working on removing them mufflers for more than 3 hours. Even sitting on a stool while working didn't help.

I am down for the count today
