One of the things that attracted me to Doi san in particular was that his knives tend to be a bit chunkier, with a wider distal grind, than other smiths. He is a master of low temperature forging, which keeps the crystal grain size small, which reduces the likelihood of chipping, and he usually tempers his blades at 66 Rockwell, though some go as high as 67-68 hrc.

I was looking for a workhorse, not a laser.

I just hope my wife likes it. If she doesn't, I'll never hear the end of it.

Modular Adjustable Razor System (MARS) with 10 different levels of base plates for snapped DE blades.

MARS also offers injector blade plates that I may pick up later.

I haven't bought anything in awhile but I rolled the dice on this.
    s-l1600 (1).jpg

If I am lucky it is an E1, if not it is definitely an early model Type E2.

Where did you buy that? From the kickstarter page or are they selling them elsewhere now?

Yes....I'm a sucker and a weak one at that.

Tatara throwed me a 15% off code today and I could not resist. I tried to resist but I failed.

On the way in......Tatara Masamune with both plates. I already have the Nodachi which is a beast. This one is supposed a lot tamer.

It showed up on E-bay. This one appears to be the updated version. The guy said he used it two times and liked his carts better.

I have a tracking number but it has not made it to post office. I'm too impatient .

The answer is it is an E2 but one of the best kept secrets of E2 razors as you will see.
    te1.jpg

For all practical purposes it is an E1 with a rounded spring. Everything is identical otherwise including how they should shave compared to each other. This one has never been formally documented as specific E2 variant until recently plus it won't cost you the same as buying an E1.

The E1 is on the left.

I've had a few of those early Schick E2 razors in boxes and sold them. But I still have one boxed with the fake blade in the razor and instruction sheet in excellent shape, that's a keeper. Also another unboxed in great shape, selling that one. Also a Canadian version in case, that one I've used.
