It fell a couple of days ago. For me this was a rather hasty decision. I had been aware of my thinning hair for some time and drone pictures at work had given me a good(?) look at it from all angles. But I was still never really bothered about it, so shaving it off had never been on the table. A few days ago I was going to my favorite hair dresser to cut my hair but she was closed. I didn't look forward to go to someone else as I'm so used to say 'as usual'... and her telephone number didn't work so I became worried that she had closed permanently. The next day I saw my wife watching videos with people leaving their "sorrows" behind on the YouTube channel BaldCafe... and that was the only thing I needed. A couple of days prior to it I hadn't even considered shaving... and a few hours later everything was in the sink and a whole row of problems had been solved. It feels so deliberating and my daughters think I look super cool... like Bruce Willis. So I have no regrets whatsoever. It rather feels like something I should have done years ago. :)

What I didn't know anything about was the width of the actual procedure and head care. The way I had seen this was "In the future my hair will be cut by myself"... but it apparently wasn't the one-step procedure ("1: Shave off") that I had expected. It was a whole list of pre's and post's that popped up together with it... things my "old head" (in my eyes) had never required... even terms I had never heard before. I will need a set of post-it notes with tutorials on the bathroom mirror for a while.

My head/hair was probably what I cared least about before... now I have to read tutorials to take care of it.

Welcome aboard, @MrSweck ! My husband started shaving his head after years of not really liking what was left. (He really didn't mind being bald, just having a dull, uninteresting fringe.). I think he looks hot. I love it when his head gets a nice shine on it.

As for your journey into head-shaving, ask us whatever questions you need to . Those with the right sort of experience will help you out.

I'm very sure there will be questions. Today I shaved with blades for the first time and I was not comfortable with doing it. It took me hours to prepare for even go into the bathroom it and I still was shaking when I stood there doing it. And when I was done... "Did I miss a step?". Even though the result was silk smooth I still couldn't let it go. I don't want to stand there for a long time wondering if I'm doing it right, so if actual questions turn up I won't be shy with them.

If shaving with blades makes you nervous (understandable, as this is new to you) try a dry run. Lather up & go over your head with a razor that hasn't got a blade in it, just to learn the contours of your scalp.

It wasn't much the shaving that was a problem as I have shaved before (face). It was more the entire process. I'm totally new to all the pre's and post's, with exfoliating, open/close pores, headcare etc... "Did I do that step right... in the right order?". I might have watched too many YouTube videos and seen too many men doing their own methods.

Yup. Don't over think it. It's just shaving.

That's right. I know today that I thought about it like it was something 'special'. The thing was new to was 'head care' and as it seemed from shaving videos it was much more complicated than I thought and gave a fat 'shaving instruction' for me to learn. I've realized now that it isn't much more than 'skin care'... and even though I've never been into that either, my wife is certainly no stranger to it. So she is giving me the help I feel that I need.

I now feel that I miss my hair a little... i.e. my RED hair. It's kind of a "signature" through my Icelandic family. So I've decided to grow a beard so I don't have to feel that I have turned my back on them.:susel:

That can be a very handsome look. Maybe, if you like, you can post a pic once you have grown it.

Here is the picture I took where my "virginity shave" was only minutes old (the man my wife met when she woke up).... and my beard style was still in the category "extremely ignored". I wished I had TRIMMED it instead of going all in there too.
