I apologize for not posting here as often as I should have been. I don't normally do SOTD posts, so when they tend to repeat, I tend to ignore them.
Since we last chatted, I have stuck with the Rolls except for two shaves, one with a DE, and the other with a vintage Thiers-Issard Spartacus straight razor. This was to give me a frame of reference to compare the Rolls to, since that's all I've been using for the past 40 or so days.
This was the Spartacus's second or third outing since it was honed by Glen
@gssixgun many years ago. I don't often shave with straight razors, as I prefer shavettes, but it did lead me to experiment with the Rolls, pressing the blade, spine and all, against the face, hard enough that the safety bar acted as a skin stretcher, and got the best shave yet. I followed it up with another, and a third, today.
I also switched to a Rolls stropping paste loaded strop to compare to the Turtle Wax rubbing compound loaded strop I used for the first half of the month. The Rolls paste is about twice as aggressive, and leaves a fairly harsh edge from the hone. This settles down after a shave or two. I find I need 20 to 25 strops pre and post shave with the Rolls paste, and about 40 when I use the rubbing compound. The rubbing compound leaves a 'softer' edge than the Rolls paste. I'm sorry, that's the best way I can describe it.
