Cape 1000 Swedish steel in Lava Kirinite by Alfredo. Soap was MdC Vetyver lathered with a Semogue Galahad, and Myrsol Formule K finished up a bracing shave. Formula K has good bits of menthol and peppermint, but the sting wasn’t much, the sign of a good edge with this AS.
7/8 Herder 49, these from when they were selling cheap on eBay 3-4 years ago. I think that I have maybe $200 in both of them, and although they were not the best ground razors at the heel, once you got them sorted they are wonderful shavers. The MdC Vetyver was still out, and a Rooney Victorian did the lathering. SMN Analcolica Emulsion topped off a great shave. The SMN balm is a good fit with the MdC Vetyver scent-wise, though the Emulsion is not strongly scented.

Yesterday, shave #85 on the Rifuto 816, and although the end result was good, I’m calling the edge longevity test over on the basis of face feel during the shave. Not as good as 150 from the Sub Cero or Alfredo’s 133 with a vintage TI, but it did beat the Cape 1000 and the Filly DT by 20% or so. That could be the result of what I’ve learned from these high-mileage edges, who knows, but the Rifuto is not an exotic steel, though I would not be surprised at all to find that it’s Yasuki steel 2, or Hitachi white #2. Soap was MdC rose lathered with a Zenith boar in custom handle, and Myrsol Plastic Shave finished up the end of the run for this edge. Today, a Shell 72, soap was MdC fougere lathered with an Omega 49, and Floris 89 finished up a great shave.

M.K. 31-1/2, cream and AS were AdP and a APS synth did the lathering. This is the first synth brush that I’ve bought in a while, and they are making progress. The knot is still a little springy and slingy, but it picks up soap well and makes good lather, which is what a brush is supposed to do.
