I've thought about making my own. But I like old stuff too. If I made my own, then I wouldn't have a reason to buy it, wouldn't I? My wife is jealous of my time. $15 vs. 2 or 3 hours "puttering about." I'll spend the money. Stones boxes, on the other hand, tend to be custom fit sort of things, and are worth a bit of time invested.
I'm fortunate enough that my office at work has all the tools needed to make it. I've utilize my breaks to build small items like this.
Seller had listed this as a Soviet shaving brush, but I know that's not the case (I think it might be one of the Simpson 50's series). I made an offer and seller accepted. I was only interested in the Williams shaving soap container, but a fellow member is interested in the case and brush, so I'm willing to split it with him when he's ready.
Another vintage hand painted ceramic shaving soap bowl for my collection. Hopefully this one will hold a D.R. Harris Lavender Shaving Soap refill.
I've got a complete woodshop. Time, on the other hand, is at a premium. Not shaving related, but... Got a Motor Sich (Ukrainian) cream separator on the way at a bargain price. Maybe someday I'll try my hand at making goat milk shave soap.
