I went yesterday for my birthday lunch. It was another nice ride. Rain moved in late but, we need it!

I am not sure what my shave will be today. I do need one since it has been a couple days of not shaving. I am getting arthritis in my hips now....sore. Grandpa had it so bad he could not walk by age of 75

I am sorry to hear that you have that condition. I pray that it doesn't get any worse.

I will have good company today. It's supposed to be hot again. I may sit on my butt or putz in the yard some. IMG_4513.JPG

Yes, it is not fun...I have it in my hips, shoulders, and neck. Sometimes it even hurts in my knees. It has flared up in the last year. Getting OLD!

Sunday evening shave, in preparation for early start tomorrow.
    36 hours growth

Arko: Not quite as slick as I would have liked. Think my dry loading was a bit too dry and I didn't load enough. Managed to sort of rescue this by dipping back into the puck from time to time.

Ever-Sharp Hydro-magic injector (1), I felt I had to give this a go after a relatively successful introduction to SE shaving yesterday with my Gem G-bar.

Initially a bit fiddly to get the blade loaded, undo the lever, insert the injector key, close the lever and in she goes. Nice.
Looks like a lot of blade reveal...

Usual face prep, proraso green pre-shave.
Initial pass WTG really took off the 36 hours stubble nicely.
2nd Pass felt a bit rough. Nicked a pimple. Picked up something below left side of jaw, minor weeper midline lower lip.
3rd Pass was spent dodging the nicks.
W-E and E-W top lip was more successful and 'cleaner' than I usually get with a DE. Some promise there.
Adam's apple and swirly bits in the right lower neck were sort of conquered, reasonably OK.

Decided to quit while I was still ahead, there is always another day.
Rinsed the razor in 60% alcohol, set aside for another day.

I felt that the technique is more similar to a normal DE than with the G-bar, maybe that's why I got a bit cocky and went faster than I should have.
It's a light razor, some pressure is needed, it may be I used too much, being light it was tricky going S-N under the chin and jawline.
Overall smooth shave, but I can only rate this 6.5 /10.

Quality of lather was sub-par today, still need to work on that.

Glad I tried this and will keep this with the goal of getting better acquainted with it. Next time I will use the MWF and see if that helps.
    This little razor has promise.

Hope your weekend is coming to a satisfactory close and the week ahead is successful.

I will be 68 in 2 months. I do split workouts and 1/2 hour of rowing on my cardio days. I am in the gym every day. I thank God that I don't have any arthritis. However, I have hurt my shoulders over the years that I have had to ease a bit on my workouts. Fortunately, you're not overweight because your arthritis would be much worse. I would suggest swimming so that you're not putting excessive stress on your joints.

I might do some cleaning of old stufff on furniture today-will require me to sit Indian Style on the floor. I'll have to grab on to something to help lift me back up.

Excellent detailed post and shave Chris. It is always ok to go back and hit the puck if need be. I think of the minimal of lather as a pre-shave as I add more soap to the brush. It's a no harm and no foul kind of situation. I have done it many times. The main thing is to have a nice lather on your face before you shave.
Every soap has different qualities that make it easier or harder to lather. It's up to you to make the adjustments. It may be using a different brush or increasing loading time. My experience is that I never approach each shave with a cookie cutter approach. Disclaimer: everyone's experience is different.

Awesome shave in Alabama this morning.....no shave yesterday.

I picked this razor up for a song off of Ebay last week and this is the first shave with it. I have the 17mm New Deluxe and I was delighted to add the 15mm version to the den. The only difference is the cut is deeper on the teeth for the 15mm version....making the teeth a little longer.

    Not my picture.

Three very nice passes with hint of alum. This razor head will hang with any modern razor in my den. Gillette had this shaving thing figured out a long time ago.

I hope everyone is have a great weekend.

Good shave effort this morning. I went back to switching blade direction at the second pass and again across-the-board greatness on the Cuts, Knicks, Polka-dot persuasion. We don't get nuch spring season here these years, so I might be able to do another Zingari before it begins getting warm/hot. Hub City, too. We shall see. Same might be said of each of my Gabels aftershaves. I have a Bill Neumann up for the coming week. Anyway, the Stoylin A.S.(unscented)provided for a nice finish. Most Outstanding.

SRS # 863 - Sample Shave Soap Sunday - Viriato

    Rating: 5 / 5

Razor: Double Duck Twin Duck Special #1
Brush: PAA The Green Ray 24 mm
Lather: Los Jabones de Joserra Viriato
    Aftershave: B & M Sandalwood
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

Another shave soap sample has left the den to rendezvous with the Edmund Fitzgerald. I had a nice and efficient shave which started out with the reservoir of the mug filling with extremely hot water. After dipping the brush I loaded the soap and face lathered. I used a few more dips into the hot water to get the lather the way I felt comfortable to start the shave process. With each subsequent pass I quickly reloaded the brush with some soap, applied a layer to the face and dipped the brush into the hot water to aid in getting the lather slicker and voluminous. Three passes to shave Nirvana, which was happily approved by the missus.

Non shave related: I have fired up the smoker again to smoke a nice pork belly. A whole lot of goodness right there.

    Enjoy your day gentlemen.
