SE SOTD, Thursday, May 18th 2023

Razor : Gem Junior bar lather catcher, Mfg 1907-11, mild razor, well built to last many generations, brass with a nickel coating, it is amazing with a new blade how well this old razor performs. It takes a person back in time while shaving but the performance is still great with a new Gem PTFE blade.
Blade : Gem Personna SS PTFE blade (2) very sharp, great longevity, smooths out nicely, predictable + safest blade to handle.
Soap : Taylor of old Bond street herbal sandal wood, nice herb and sandalwood combination 7-10 scent strength with excellent lather qualities.
Brush : Yaqi "Casino clubs" 26mm Timber wolf synthetic, excellent lather generator, heavenly luxury cloud like soft tips, gentle splay scrubber + excellent lather painter. This brush checks all the boxes for performance and face feel for myself.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Ogallala Bayrum & sandal wood AS + a dollop of Geo F Trumper Sandalwood skin food .
Results : or CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers= excellent shave with my Gem Jr bar with a coated Gem blade.

SOTD - Wednesday, 17 May

Yesterday was my first full shave since 1 October 2022...

Pre-shave: Beard buzzed off with Wahl beard trimmer. Face washed with Aloe Vera hand soap.
Razor: Gillette Pre-war Tech with Dishi CNC handle
Blade: Tatra Platinum - shave 1
Soap: Williams Mug Soap
Brush: RazoRock Snowman
Aftershave: None

Yesterday was my first go with a Tatra blade, and it acquitted itself quite nicely, indeed. After buzzing off my beard with the Wahl trimmer, there was quite a bit of long stubble remaining and the Tech/Tatra combo mowed it all down without a single tug, cut, or hint of irritation. It took several more passes than usual, however, and the blade was clearly spent by the end of the shave, unable to cut the last of the stubble on my neck. The rest of my face was left BBS and felt quite refreshed.

I'm really looking forward to today's "normal" shave with a fresh Tatra. I fully expect it to be excellent!

My dear brother Jaco in Pretoria, South Africa makes a LOT of fantastic soaps and this Kameelperd’s Kick is one of them. In Afrikaans kameelperd means giraffe and this soap is glycerine based, it has a beautiful coffee/peppermint scent with awesome lather, as well as a monstrous menthol sensation which is easily a match for any of the Stirling Glacials, and a very comfortable postshave feeling. Forgive me for the dinky container it’s in because it’s a 250 gram puck that I received almost five years ago. The Prep and the Floid Vigoroso aftershave were a wonderful, soothing, and icy cold finish. Three glorious passes gave me an easy peasy, super duper BBS shave that was fit for a king!

The Musgo Real Shave Soap lathered well with the Heldtite Synthetic brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Eversharp Schick G and a Personna Injector Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with PSC Caffeinated AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
