I'm 65 and just started using a DE razor (34c) for the first time. I've been using a Harry's up until now. I'm using good soap and aftershave balm purchased from West Coast Shaving, along with a badger brush. I'm only about 4-5 shaves in, and I sure suck! I'll start my own thread on this before I go back to the Harry's. Looking forward to hearing from the experts.
welcome aboard! it took me about 6 weeks to feel comfortable with a DE and about 6 months to have it seem completely natural. try to avoid making a lot of changes with equipment initially. stick with the 34C and learn to use it.
One thing don't care for, at this point, is how short the 34c handle is for my long skinny fingers. Oh well, I'll move this to the General discussion forum. Thanks.
Another welcome from Alabama! I remember very well my first DE shave, about 10 years ago or so.. Probably half a dozen nicks and weepers, but I was just glad I didn’t cut my face clean off! You’ll do just fine in time, as you develop good technique. I got a lot of great advice on this forum!
Hey there, @Jim O . Welcome to the Den. I see you made your first vintage purchase today. Take a look at The Jim Thread.
@Jim O Well, I've responded to quite a few of your posts. Seems you're coming along just fine! Quess I'll make an official welcome post. Glad you're here!
I suppose now is not the right time to tell you that you've barely scratched the surface? Vintage razor collecting can become a consuming hobby. But think of all the money you're saving by not buying cartridges!
Welcome! Do start a thread about your troubles with DE shaving. We all started with troubles until we learned a few things and our technique improved. Would be helpful if you include the equipment and how you shave with a DE for starters.
