I'm talking about the ones that come in a yellow pack. For an average beard growth, shaving daily w/3 passes, about how many shaves can I get out of one blade? I've been tossing them after 3 days only for the fact that I haven't tried a fourth day.

As an aside, I recall someone saying that new blades can be a bit rough the first shave, but will smooth out over the next few shaves. True? Thanks.

Most good blades I get four to five shaves. With Feathers I can get six or seven.
Lots of factors including the coarseness and density of your beard.
Some guys toss a blade every two shaves.

My best shave on a lot of blades is shave number two but there’s still a lot of brands that the best shave is number one.
With injector blades I probably get the best shave on shave number one

Blade life, or longevity, is determined by your face. Only it will give the answer about when a blade is beyond use.

As John said above, there are many factors. Every face, beard, technique, etc is different.

I'm guessing most guys just use the same blade until it doesn't feel smooth anymore.

Most guys on forums keep track of blade life and toss a blade after a set number of shaves. Most normal people use a blade until it starts getting tuggy.

Some guys refuse to use a blade more than once.

I get my best shaves from a feather on the 2nd and 3rd use. The first shave is usually a bit on the sharp side for me. I get 7-14 shaves from a Feather. I'm not one to generally keep track of my shave #.

The best way to determine how many shaves you get per blade is to experiment and find out what you prefer. You'll get fairly consistent results once your technique becomes solid and repeatable.

I have a medium beard, and most of the time I change DE blades after 3 shaves. That way, I never experience a dying blade edge. I'm too lazy to swap out a bad blade mid-shave. :) They are cheap, and I have a ton of them, but that's just me.

Some guys remove blades and dry them between uses. Others flip the blades over, and still others strop them. I just give my razor a quick rinse between shaves and leave the blade alone until it needs to be replaced. Never had a problem doing this.

Most good blades I get six to ten shaves. With Feathers I can get four or five.

It depends...seriously. I can get up to 10 shaves with Wizamets and Polsilvers(which are the same blade) Feathers, maybe 5-6 and then it feels like the beard is being yanked out. They are extremely sharp which can lead to quickly dulling. I am reminded about putting a "feather" edge on a hunting knife.

My best shaves are with the first so I'm one & done as far as blades are concerned. I do like several different blades but for me nothing tops a Feather.
