Yeah, I'm really new at this, but I definitely prefer my E3 to either the Merkur 34c, or the Gillette NEW. Still waiting on blades for the Gem. Anyway, I still draw blood no matter what I use, but far less with the E3. It's lighter, and more intuitive for me. (Maybe I'm just more careful with it...). I also don't like the clunkiness of the DEs. Top heavy like a hammer. Like the 34c, aligning the blade in the NEW so it's even on both sides is a pain. You can't simply drop the blade in and tighten it down. Also, the blade is slightly longer than the razor head, extending out on the ends, slightly. So, now I'll keep my eyes open for a Schick adjustable injector.
It's all a matter of preference. You also may want to try an aluminum DE. Very light, maneuverable. A Standard Razor is nice. I know there are others, I just can't think of a brand. As for nicks and cuts remember that any razor (DE or SE) requires a very light touch. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
